GAME NIGHT 9/29: Kalaheo/Kalani

Kalaheo needs a win over Kalani to keep its slim playoff hopes alive for the final week of the regular season in OIA Division II. The Falcons will play their final game on homecoming night.

Kalani 41, Kalaheo 13, FINAL

9:49: 41-13 is your final. Kalani gets a senior night and homecoming victory to end its season.

9:44: Kalani pads its lead as Justin Yasutake scores on a 3-yard rushing touchdown. They go for two and don’t convert. It’s now 41-13 with 1:43 left.

9:35: Kalaheo’s Micah Jahnke takes a handoff 13 yards for a touchdown. The Mustangs go for two and don’t get it. Kalani still leads 35-13 with 4:51 left.

9:24: PICK-SIX KALANI. Sapp takes his second interception of the day 70 yards to the house. Mcclellan’s PAT is good, and the Falcons’ lead is now 35-7 with 8:06 remaining.

9:18: The Falcons decide to go from it from the Kalaheo 6, and Tina-Soberano fires an incomplete pass. The Mustangs will try to cut into the lead with 9:43 left in the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER

9:14: End of the third. Kalani faces second-and-9 from the Kalaheo 27 to start the fourth. The Falcons are on their way to a season-ending win.

9:07: Kalaheo picks up a couple of first downs but not much after, so the Mustangs punt. The Falcons take over from their own 16 with 3:03 left in the third quarter.

9:00: TOUCHDOWN KALANI. Tina-Soberano and Matsuoka connect three straight times, the last one a 15-yard score. Mcclellan’s PAT is good and the lead s now 28-7. Soberano’s day so far: 12-19-2-282 and four touchdowns. Matsuoka’s: 5-129 and two touchdowns.

8:54: The Mustangs drive all the way to the Kalani 24 but can’t convert on a fourth down. Falcons take over with 7:03 left in the half.

8:49: Alana comes up with pick No. 2 of the day and he takes it to the Kalani 40. The Mustangs take over with 10:50 left in the third quarter.

8:46: Falcons will take over on their own 25 to start the second half.

THIRD QUARTER

8:25: WHOA. Tina-Soberano chucks a prayer to Travis Tagad, who catches it in traffic and takes it 79 yards TO THE HOUSE AS TIME EXPIRES. WHAT A PLAY. Mcclellan’s PAT is good and Kalani takes a 21-7 lead into halftime. They’ll also receive to start the second half. Absolutely demoralizing for the visitors.

8:20: Lapera is picked off again, this time by Drake Sapp. The Falcons take over from their own 15 with 16 seconds left in the half.


8:14: Quick three-and-out for Kalani. The Falcons go for a fake punt but it’s snuffed out by the Mustangs. Kalaheo takes over from the Kalani 46 with 2:03 left in the half.

8:11: Kalaheo goes for it again, this time facing fourth-and-9 from the Kalaheo 32. Lapera is sacked for a loss of six yards and they don’t get it. Falcons take over, 2:51 left in the half.

8:08: The Mustangs go for it on from their own 39 facing fourth-and-4, and they successfully draw a Kalani defensive lineman offsides. First down.

8:04: The Falcons face fourth-and-long from their own 32 and will punt with 7:34 left in the half. Injury timeout.

7:59: Lapera throws an incomplete pass and the Falcons will take over.

7:58: The Mustangs face fourth-and-4 on the Kalani 39 before calling a timeout.

7:56: Kekoa Alana picks off Tina-Soberano and the Mustangs take over on their own 45 with 11:08 left in the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

7:53: End of the first. Kalani will face third-and-2 from its own 23 to open the second quarter.

7:48: AND THE MUSTANGS ARE ON THE BOARD. Justus Neufeldt punches it in from three yards out. Jaden Amasiu‘s extra point attempt barely makes it past the uprights and they cut the Kalani lead in half. 14-7, 52 seconds left in the first.

7:46: The Mustangs are driving up the field again, and now they’re on the Kalani 3 before the Falcons call a timeout with 56 seconds left in the first.

7:37: Mustangs quarterback Noa Lapera is picked off by Cody Uehara. Two plays later, Tina-Soberano and Logan Matsuoka connect for a 53-yard score. Mcclellan’s PAT makes it 14-0 Kalani with 4:19 left in the first quarter.

7:34: The Mustangs are responding with a drive of their own, they’re now in the Kalani 30 with 7:11 left in the first.

7:30: TOUCHDOWN KALANI. Three plays in, Seth-Tina Soberano delivers a dime to Zachary Wong for a 23-yard score. Wayne Mcclellan‘s PAT is good and Kalani is up 7-0 with 9:03 left in the first quarter.

7:27: Quick three-and-out for Kalaheo, and the Kalani-partisan crowd is loving is here at Kaiser. The Falcons will start on the Kalaheo 34 after a shanked punt with 9:47 to go in the first.

7:23: The Mustangs will start their first drive from their own 34.

FIRST QUARTER


7:21: Kalaheo wins the toss and will receive.

6:55 p.m.: Kalaheo wins the JV game 26-0.

    Seth is the best quarterback in the state no question. No other quantity could do what he does with what he has. He has to buy time on almost every play. Last night he should have been sacked at least 10 times. If I was Rolo I would offer him yesterday.
