After a wild opening night in prep football Friday, we have three games scheduled for Saturday on Oahu.

The second game of a doubleheader at Aiea pits two teams that have combined to win eight of the last nine Division II titles, but are both competing in Division I this year. The ‘Iolani Raiders open the season with a rare non-Father Bray game to start against the reigning D-II champion Radford Rams, who have a new head coach in Lon Passos. Kickoff is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m. and live updates will follow below:

9:15 p.m. Final: ‘Iolani 42, Radford 6.

8:44 p.m. Halftime almost done. It’s drizzing here, a nice respite from a still muggy night. Mizutani was 17-for-23, 230 yards and three TD passes without a pick. Yokogawa is 4-for-15, 77 yards, one TD and one pick.

8:29 p.m. Yokogawa connects with Kaneshiro over the middle for a 16-yard TD pass as the clock expires to end the second quarter. IOL 42, RAD 6, :00, Half.

8:10 p.m. After a 44-yard pass from Yokogawa to Jonah Miyazawa, Pascua scores on a 2-yard run up the gut. IOL 35, RAD 6, Q2.

8:05 p.m. Radford’s offense sputtering, unable to gain traction by ground or air. ‘Iolani gave Mizutani a rest and had backup Jarin Yokogawa in for the past two series. Mizutani is 16-for-22, 221 yards, three TDs.

7:53 p.m. Rayden Kaneshiro pulls in a dart from Mizutani, who was in Wild West improv mode, throwing on the run and just barely getting the ball above the hands of a defensive back in the flat, and Kaneshiro went the rest of the way for a 12-yard TD. IOL 28, RAD 6, 7:27, Q2.

7:41 p.m. The first quarter ends with ‘Iolani up 21-6. Radford has had the ball for 11 offensive plays (not including penalties), partly due to the game-opening kickoff return for a touchdown.

7:35 p.m. Mizutani works the left sideline and hands the ball to Pascua, then launches a 24-yard strike to the right corner, where Drake Shigemura hauls the pass in for a touchdown. IOL 21, RAD 6, :48, Q1.

7:26 p.m. After Soakai’s negative kick return sets up bad field position for Radford, ‘Iolani drives 35 yards for a second TD. K.J. Pascua barrels in from the 1. IOL 14, RAD 6, 4:19, Q1.

7:15 p.m. The Raiders drive 85 yards and score on Tai-John Mizutani’s quick 12-yard pass to Justin Genovia. IOL 7, RAD 6, 8:30, Q1.

7:04 p.m. The game starts with an explosion as Jonah Soakai, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound senior, returns the opening kickoff 85 yards to paydirt. His PAT kick is short. RAD 6, IOL 0, 11:47, Q1.
