GAME NIGHT 8/11: Waipahu/Iolani

Waipahu feeds Failauga on six consecutive handoffs. Illegal helmet contact on ‘Iolani moves the ball to the Raiders 25. Isaac Ignacio drops Marques for a 5-yard loss. ‘Iolani takes over on downs and takes three knees. Game over.

Freshman Tate Shimao at quarterback for ‘Iolani. He completes his first four passes, all short throws, for 23 yards. The Marauders stop Nishigaya on third-and-2 and ‘Iolani punts.

A short ‘Iolani punt gives Waipahu possession at the Raiders’ 45. Marques drives the Marauders to the 18 then scrambles for 15 yards before being driven out a the 3 to end the third quarter. After a Failauga 1 yard run, Marques runs through an ‘Iolani defender to score from 2 yards out. TOUCHDOWN WAIPAHU. PAT good. 11:29.


Waipahu faces third and nine and Marques looks deep for Matthew Fiesta, who makes the catch and goes 49 yards. TOUCHDOWN WAIPAHU. PAT good. 5:29.

Waipahu goes three and out and three Failauga runs. Samuel Faumuina, who entered the game on ‘Iolani’s last drive of the first half remains at QB. ‘Iolani punts for the first time today.

Running clock in effect as we begin the second half. Kyler Mento takes the kickoff at the ‘Iolani 5, hits a hole through the middle and is gone, 95 yards TOUCHDOWN ‘IOLANI. PAT good.

Marques drives the Marauders to the ‘Iolani 10. But he’s sacked by Molina, who causes his second fumble of the game. Tom Topinka picks it up and races to the Waipahu 25. The Raiders end the half with Makekau’s 24-yard FIELD GOAL.

Waipahu goes three and out, ‘Iolani takes over at the Marauders 45. Carter Kamana takes a short throw on the left side, cuts across the field and gets to the corner for a 28-yard score. TOUCHDOWN ‘IOLANI. PAT good. 2:23.

Chong completes a 6-yard pass to Miyazawa on fourth-and-four to keep the drive going. A 5-yard TD pass to Rexton Suzuki is called back due to holding. Chong goes to Miyazawa on the next play for a 15-yard strike. TOUCHDOWN ‘IOLANI. PAT good. 4:18

Illegal helmet contact gives Waipahu a first down, but Brock Hedani drops Marques for a 17-yard loss on third down. Rayden Kaneshiro returns the punt 37 yards to the Waipahu 27.

Raiders drive to the 6 before a delay to attend to Waipahu’s Titus Suan, who is taken off the field in a cart. Play resumes and the drive stalls at the 2. Mika Makekau’s 20-yard FIELD GOAL gets through. 9:31.

Failauga dropped for a 5-yard loss, Marques sacked by Kyler Mento on third down to end the first quarter.


Chong converts and third-and-6 with an 8-yard completion. Two plays later,  Miyazawa takes a short hitch, gets loose down the right side and goes untouched from 38 yards out. TOUCHDOWN ‘IOLANI. PAT good.

Marques gets Waipahu moving with completions for 20 and 35 yards to the ‘Iolani 25. But there’s Pei for his second interception and he returns it to the 47.

Chong connects with Rayden Kaneshiro for 10 yards on third-and-7. Two plays later, Chong looks for Kaneshiro again down the left side for a 27-yard score. TOUCHDOWN ‘IOLANI. PAT good. 2:58.

Failauga picks up 9 yards on a second down run, but is stopped on third down. The Marauders go for it and Marques is stopped for no gain on a keeper. ‘Iolani ball.

Waipahu goes three and out. ‘Iolani takes over at its 42. Chong completes a slant to Jonah Miyazawa for 18 yards. Nishigaya picks up 5 yards up the middle but fumbles and Waipahu recovers at its 34.

Shayden Molina bats down a pass, Kyler Mento drops Marques for a 5-yard loss and Pei intercepts the third-down pass and returns it 12 yards for the score. TOUCHDOWN ‘IOLANI. PAT good. 7:21, Q1

‘Iolani QB Jonah Chong scrambles and loses the ball. Titus Suan recovers for Waipahu at the ‘Iolani 28. On the next play, Failauga is stripped, Meki Pei scoops up the loose ball at the 34 and returns it to the Waipahu 8. Kaua Nishigaya takes three handoffs and scores from the 1. TOUCHDOWN ‘IOLANI. PAT good. 8:22 Q1.

Branson Jay Reyes returns the opening kickoff 32 yards to the 35. Cody Marques completes a 10-yard pass on first down. Alfred Failauga dropped for a 7-yard loss on third and 6 and the Marauders punt.

 

‘Iolani wins the toss and defers. Waipahu will receive the opening kickoff.

    Appreciate the live feed game on youtube may they have more games as the season comes down to wire. I believe these teams will meet again at the end Waipahu top team in D1 but gotto believe in yourself first and foremost Aloha!!!:)
