PRE-GAME
4:20 p.m. Sunny skies and trades 10-15 mph here at John Kauinana Stadium. Picturesque. Which almost guarantees that it’ll rain a bit within a few hours. Things rarely stay the same here weather-wise. The good news is that the old muddy field here is a memory, replaced by synthetic turf several seasons ago. There were so many puddles on the field, 10 to 20 depending on the length of any downpour, that there were micro-ponds and lakes.

These teams battled just three weeks ago, a 46-21 win for Kaimuki that was punctuated by a heated scuffle after a late hit. I’d be surprised if that tension lingered into this game. Coaches have probably informed their players that officials will be on the lookout for any hint of trouble, and any ejection will bring an automatic one-game suspension. Which means missing the OIA D-II championship game for players of tonight’s winning team.
