Kaiser kicker Kyler Halvorsen commits to Washington State

By Paul Honda on March 30, 2021

Patience is a way of life for placekickers. That same trait came in handy during the recruiting process for Kaiser senior Kyler Halvorsen. Roughly a dozen D-I programs showed interest in the strong-footed two-sport athlete, but Halvorsen committed to Washington State on Tuesday afternoon. Cal, Hawaii and several more programs, including Wake Forest, had flirted with Halvorsen, but didn’t make quite the same opportunity available. He will be a preferred walk-on (PWO) as a freshman, with a chance to earn […]

ON THIS DATE IN 2006: Kaiser comes back to tie Waipahu

By Jerry Campany on October 20, 2020

ON THIS DATE (1996): Kaiser’s Grant Sato turns it on just in time

By Jerry Campany on October 4, 2020

On this date in 1996, Kaiser quarterback Grant Sato woke up from a nightmare just in time to save the Cougars from a certain loss. Kaiser beat Radford 10-6 to take first place in the OIA Blue. Sato was an anemic 3-for-34 for just 60 yards against Radford’s stout defense when he decided to try to do something with his feet. Sato ran seven yards on fourth down, even hurdling a defender, to score the telling touchdown late in the […]

When Kaimuki lost its first game in Division II play this season, it bounced back a week later to hand defending OIA champion Roosevelt its first loss. What did the Rough Riders do after that first loss? How about a 21-0 shutout of undefeated Kaiser, who entered the game having scored at least 33 points in all six of its league games. The Cougars got their chance to show how a loss would affect them on Friday night at Kaiser […]
