GAME NIGHT 10/11: Kaiser/Kalaheo

Kaiser 38, Kalaheo 6, FINAL

———-

8:05: SCORE Kalaheo! It’s Jordan Neufeldt running it in on the wildcat keeper from a yard. XP is no good, but at least the Mustangs have something to point to at the very end of their season.

8:03: Neufeldt on the run to Isaiah Abordo for a 29-yard connection … and he’s down at the 1. Kalaheo looking to get on the board here final minute.

7:47: Fourth quarter begins, Kalaheo starting in Kaiser territory for the first time.

4Q

7:46: Three-and-out for Kaiser’s second unit. Forgot to mention, great punt by Kalaheo that flipped the field on the previous drive. Went for 61 yards.

7:42: Kalaheo’s Alan Aber takes a wildcat snap in relief of Jordan Neufeldt and gets absolutely crushed. He’s down for a moment but is able to walk off. Mustangs punting it from their 19 with the running clock going.

7:35: New QB in the game for Kaiser. It’s Xavier Kepa. He completes some passes and gets his team into the red zone before Kalaheo manages to tip a pass and come down with the interception at their 3.

7:21: Meant to add that Neufeldt fumbled it away for the second time on his wildcat keepers going into the half. Tough spot he’s in right now to help his team.

7:16: First half mercifully comes to an end with Kaiser leading 38-0. Four touchdown passes by Brock Perreira … two to Dre Falls, and Falls has a 60-yard punt return TD as well.

7:02: An offensive PI call pushes Kalaheo way back and they punt from deep within their own territory. It’s a good-length punt … but Dre Falls, who has two receiving TDs already, takes it at his team’s 40 and weaves his way through Kalaheo’s punt coverage team with seeming ease. It goes as a 60-yard punt return TD. Yikes. We’re into mercy territory, but there’s still 4:43 left in the first half.

6:54: After Dane Tsue’s pick of Kalaheo, Perreira looks downfield to a WIDE OPEN Mason Yoshino, who catches it with no one within 15 yards of him. He practically walks into the end zone from 39 yards. 31-0, fourth TD pass for Perreira.

6:49: Kaiser gets a 29-yard field goal from Kyler Halvorsen when the Cougars drive stalls at the 5 and is pushed back.

6:44: Nothing doing with Neufeldt back there, although it’s a little better.

2Q

6:40: First quarter ends with Kalaheo going back to converted TE Jordan Neufeldt as a wildcat quarterback.

6:38: Make it three touchdowns for Perreira in the first quarter, with this one going on the same play to Dre Falls on the right as the previous score. He takes it in from 18 yards to make it 21-0.

6:31: Another three-and-out as Kaiser fumbles (and recovers) on first down, then Perreira is sacked by Kalaheo’s Alan Aber on second down.

6:28: Kalaheo tries tight end Jordan Neufeldt at quarterback to open its fourth drive. He gets the team a first down with a 10-yard pass, then Akiu comes back in. Nothing doing and Kalaheo punts it to the Mustangs’ 44.

6:22: Three straight incompletions by Perreira (two on a couple of tipped balls) and Kaiser is punting it away for the first time tonight. Return is bobbled and Kalaheo return man is brought down at the 5.

6:21: Akiu goes long on first down, but he’s short of his target. Kaiser’s Josh Okamoto comes down with it at the Kalaheo 46.

6:19: Two passes, two scores (but with a 1-yard running play first). Perreira hits Dre Falls on a swing pass and he takes it 54 yards along the right sideline, TD.

6:17 p.m.: Another three-and-out for Kalaheo and Kaiser takes over on its 45 on a better Mustangs punt this time.

6:13 p.m.: One play, one score for Kaiser. Cougars QB Brocke Perreira goes over the middle to Jesse Stroede, who takes a hit, spins and goes in from 36 yards. XP good.

6:10 p.m.: Quick three-and-out by the Mustangs. Two runs by Jackson Aber go for 4 yards, then QB Isaiah Akiu is incomplete.

6:07 p.m.: Kaiser kicks off to Kalaheo, going right to left. Looked like the Mustangs tried a reverse, which backfired. They begin on their 10.

Kaiser coach Tim Seaman says pregame that he will go with junior quarterback Brock Perreira today in the regular-season finale.
