Leilehua’s Shantelle Mangrobang appears to be on a mission.
The Mule is in the semifinals of the Pa’ani Challenge at Punahou after spending less than a minute on the mat in her two matches. She pinned Jennifer Gallardo in 33 seconds last night and returned to stick Rosalyn Kagimoto of Kalani in 22 seconds.
Mangrobang will meet Baldwin’s McKenzie Acob in the semifinals with either Dania Furuta of Pac-Five or Kaiser’s Tiare Ikei (No. 8 P4P) in the final. All four semifinalists have won their matches in the tournament by pinfall.
The Tianna Fernandez / Ira Navarro clash at 107 pounds is still on for the semifinals, with Fernandez pinning Majesty Terukina of Campbell in 5:44 and Navarro taking out Jenna Justo of Moanalua in 39 seconds. Fernandez is No. 10 pound-for-pound and Navarro is No. 4 in the latest Hawaii Prep World rankings.
The logjam at 138 is getting tighter, with Lahainaluna’s Kauanoe Keahi facing Waianae’s Kamakana Hernandez-Waialae in one semifinal and Paige Respicio of Kamehameha and Baldwin’s Jahnei Miguel in the other.
All four girls pinned their quarterfinal opponents, with Respicio doing it the fastest in 39 seconds.
Miguel won in 1:46, Keahi took 4:44 and Hernandez-Waialae got it done in 1:42.
