OIA wrestling individual and team results

The Waianae boys and Pearl City girls won Oahu Interscholastic Association wrestling championships at Leilehua on Saturday night. Angela Peralta of Radford became the third girl to win four OIA individual titles. She joins Farrington’s Tani Ader (2005-2008) and Moanalua’s Caylene Valdez (2000-2003). Nos. 1-2 seeds make 17 OIA wrestling finals

Of the 28 weight classes in the Oahu Interscholastic Association wrestling championships, the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds have advanced to tonight’s finals at Leilehua. Only two No. 1 seeds have fallen — Roosevelt’s Yuting He of Roosevelt in Girls 119 and Campbell’s Noah Respicio in Boys 172. The upsets of the top two seeds in the 28 divisions follow. Kapolei’s Pagurayan hunting for fourth OIA title

Kapolei’s Jayson Pagurayan‘s biggest goal comes next week at states, but he has a bit of history to make first. Pagurayan can secure his fourth OIA championship this weekend at Leilehua, putting him in elite company as the fourth to complete the slam since 1997. The others are Chaeden Grace Reyes of Moanalua and Farrington in 2013, Richard Torres of Kahuku in 2007 and McKinley’s Rene Suehiro in 2004. Those three have state championships to their credit. Radford’s Peralta going for rare OIA slam

Radford’s Angela Peralta is in the 147-pound bracket of the OIA wrestling championships this weekend, seeded first and going for her fourth league title. If she can pull it off, she would become just the third girl to complete the slam. She would join Farrington’s Tani Ader from 2005-2008 and Moanalua’s Caylene Valdez from 2000-2003. Vierra leads Kamehameha girls to ILH crown

No Teshya Alo, no problem. The Kamehameha girls wrestling team won its fourth straight ILH title on Thursday, continuing the legacy created by Alo three years ago. Alo graduated last year but the Warriors picked up another state crown without their heart and soul for the past three years. Pascua gets slam, Kamehameha boys get title

Like others who have completed the ILH slam over the years, Iolani’s KJ Pascua left no doubt. Pascua won his fourth straight ILH title, this one at 170 pounds, by beating Kamehameha’s Chasyn Aipolani with a second round pin at Kamehameha on Thursday. Pascua only wrestled two matches, winning his semifinal bout by pin after running out to a 10-0 lead. Pascua is the first Iolani wrestler to complete the slam since Patrick Higa in 1986.
