Moanalua girls in control of OIA title

Moanalua’s girls are in position for their first girls team crown since Joel Kawachi led them to a share of the title with Castle in 2002. Na Menehune have put up 88 points before the championship semifinals, with Leilehua (67) and Waianae (64) trailing them. The Leilehua boys wrestling team is a day away from its first OIA team title of any gender. The Mules have scored 95 points after the first day, leading Moanalua (73) and Radford (67) and defending champion Waianae (67). Nanea Estrella is on her way up. The Lahainaluna sophomore cracked the national girls high school rankings for the first time this week and jumped to the top four of Hawaii Prep World’s pound-for-pound list. Teniya Alo, Kelani Corbett and Zayren Terukina are among the bigger names going for titles at the OIA wrestling championships Friday and Saturday at Leilehua. Alo, Kahuku’s two-time state champion, is No. 1 in Hawaii Prep World’s pound-for-pound girls rankings, and she is going for the league’s 138-pound title. Eight Hawaii girls wrestlers ranked in top 15 nationally

Hawaii Prep World will release its next set of pound-for-pound rankings prior to the start of the three league championships and the ILH duals coming up in the next couple of days.
