Update: Kapolei’s Trey Johnson

A few weeks ago, we ran a feature story on Kapolei freshman Trey Johnson, a runner who has shown impressive improvement in the 400-meter run over the past nine months. He went from running the 400 at 56 seconds early last summer to 53 after training with Leeward Track Club and coach Tony Jones. Six Kamehameha athletes win 2 events each

Six Kamehameha athletes won two individual events at the ILH JV and Varsity Track and Field Meet No. 3 on Saturday at Punahou School. The Warriors’ double winners were Bailey Wilson-Pena (discus, shot put), Kayla Afoa (long jump, 100), Kayson Smith-Bejgrowicz (triple jump, high jump), Dylan Kane (100, 200), Mario Kaluhiokalani (300 hurdles, 110 hurdles) and Kainalu Asam (1,500, 3,000). ‘Iolani’s Kamuela Borden also won two events, the discus and shot put. McKinley gets softball stadium; football next

McKinley’s new multi-million dollar softball stadium is ready for use, and a new football field ringed by an eight-lane track is next on the list. The softball stadium, which had been delayed several times for various reasons, will host the OIA championship tournament in April as well as the early rounds of the state tournament in May, according to McKinley athletic director Bob Morikuni. Notes: Seabury Hall senior Alyssa Bettendorf’s 24.68 in the 200 meters stands as a new meet record. The previous standard of 25.04 was set by Lauran Dignam of Iolani in 2002. Diamond Briscoe of Pearl City ran 24.79 for second place. Kamehameha’s Kaeo Kruse’s 8:43.12 in the 3000 meters broke the HHSAA state championship meet record of 8:52.44 set by Pierce Murphy of Island School in 2012.
