Mahelona’s sacrifice completes turnaround at Pac-Five

Pac-Five’s resurgence was another remarkable finish. The Wolf Pack were 0-8 at midseason, but a win over Punahou sparked its engine. Somewhere between batting cages and yoga sessions, the Campbell Sabers won a state championship. The school’s first softball crown, earned on Friday night with a 5-1 win over Punahou, wasn’t just about downward dogs and learning to hit an outside fastball the other way. Run-scoring singles by Taylor Rosa-Ramon, Daylene Antonio and Gerika Pantohan spurred a three-run eighth-inning as No. 5-ranked Campbell escaped with a 7-4 victory over top-ranked Mililani yesterday at the Trojans’ field. The win was Campbell’s second in five days against its rival in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West. The Sabers are 7-0 and Mililani fell to 4-2.
