McKinley gets softball stadium; football next

McKinley’s new multi-million dollar softball stadium is ready for use, and a new football field ringed by an eight-lane track is next on the list. The softball stadium, which had been delayed several times for various reasons, will host the OIA championship tournament in April as well as the early rounds of the state tournament in May, according to McKinley athletic director Bob Morikuni. Spikers lead LOI fall signing class

A dozen volleyball players were among nearly three dozen student-athletes who signed their letters of intent early Wednesday morning at the Elks Lodge in Waikiki. The event, hosted each signing season by Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance (PIAA), featured a multitude of sports for the fall signing period. The 12 volleyball players include UH signee McKenna Granato, who sparked Punahou to the state championship last week. Softball titles are becoming commonplace in Central Oahu. Mililani won the OIA junior varsity crown in the winter with a group of those underclassmen moving up to help the varsity capture the OIA Red and Division I state championships in the spring. Several Trojans quickly reconvened for the summer season and helped the Mililani-based Guava Jam Softball Club win the 16-and-under title at the ASA Champions Cup in Irvine, Calif.
