No. 2 Campbell is visiting Leilehua — actually, the Mules play home softball games at Kaala Elementary School — and it’s gotten real interesting right off the bat, pun intended.

Leilehua sophomore Alo Salausa drilled a towering, opposite-field homer to the gap in left-center with two outs to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Otherwise, Sabers ace Elisa Favela has been overpowering, striking out the side in the opening frame. LEILEHUA 1, CAMPBELL 0.

Second inning
The Sabers tied the game with an unearned run. Two Mules errors in the infield did the damage. Kiana Ulufale scored from third when Kiani Telles’ grounder to short was mishandled. CAMPBELL 1, LEILEHUA 1.

Third inning
Campbell bolts ahead on Favela’s mammoth, towering shot to dead center. The ball reached the school building’s entrance roughly 300 feet away. CAMPBELL 2, LEILEHUA 1.

Fourth inning
The Sabers get a two-out infield single by leadoff hitter Chardonnay Pantastico to score courtesy runner Cieana Curran from third base for a 3-1 lead. Mules pitcher Chelsea Lobitos got out of more trouble by retiring Nashlynn Anguay on a sharp grounder to short with two outs, stranding two runners in scoring position. CAMPBELL 3, LEILEHUA 1.

The Mules answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lobitos reached base on an infield single and scored on Gwen Maeha’s sky-high triple to left. Maeha later scored on Shanaye Mattson’s one-out line-drive single to center, tying the game.

Favela has struck out six without a walk so far. Good battle.

Fifth inning
Sabers got their first two batters on base with singles, but Lobitos retired the side with a line out, strikeout and grounder. Favela got the Mules out in order in the bottom of the frame.

Sixth inning
Pantastico walks on four pitches, steals second, goes to third on a grounder to short, then scores on a two-out error in the infield by the Mules. It was a tough play, a chopper over the mound, that got muffed. CAMPBELL 4, LEILEHUA 3.

The Mules got a leadoff double to right by Railyenne Nahulu, but she was stranded at third. Favita struck out two of the next three hitters to end the threat.

Seventh inning
Big blow by the visitors in the top of the frame. After Lobitos walks the first two batters, Ashlyn Yagin’s liner to center gets into the gap and rolls… and rolls. It’s a three-run homer and the Sabers lead goes from narrow to comfortable. CAMPBELL 7, LEILEHUA 3.
