‘Iolani girls get a leg up on Punahou

By Jerry Campany on December 14, 2013

The ‘Iolani girls soccer team isn’t going to give away the ILH title without a fight. CJ Fajardo scored ‘Iolani’s lone goal in the 58th minute and the defending state champion beat the Buffanblu 1-0 on Friday at ‘Iolani. The loss was Punahou’s second in four days after Kamehameha beat the Buffanblu by the same crushing score of 1-0. It’s still early, so Punahou still has a realistic shot of returning to the state tournament. But an ILH championship will […]

By Jerry Campany on December 13, 2013

OIA White champion Radford is at it again. The Rams beat Waipahu 1-0 on a goal from Ginny Smith, the only victory for a White team over a Red so far this season. That leaves the Red at a staredown, with four teams at 3-0 (and Moanalua at 2-0) in the East and three teams at 3-0 in the West. Radford will get another chance to impact the Red race tonight when the Rams visit unbeaten Campbell. Don’t get too […]

Lau played at Saint Louis and was an ILH all-star, graduated in ’92, and went on to play for St. Mary’s and San Diego State. […]

Kapolei honors signees

By Paul Honda on May 8, 2012

It was a special time for a special class, which is why they made a morning of it at Kapolei. The Hurricanes gathered, 17 strong, for a ceremony to honor the college-bound student athletes. Among the 17, who were with family at the breakfast event in the school gym, was pitcher Trey Kamachi-Allen. The senior is on his way to Arizona State, his school of choice. For four other schools, Kamachi-Allen was their choice long before ASU turned up at […]

By Paul Honda on May 8, 2012

Nice morning here at Kapolei, where 17 college-bound student-athletes were honored in a ceremony by the school. They really did it nice, with breakfast in the gym, parents/family only. And media. Among the signees: pitcher Trey Kamachi-Allen, going to Arizona State; Charlinda Ioane, UH track and field; Winona Pauline, UH softball. More today when I get back from the West side.
