Blowouts the norm in girls soccer

Girls soccer season on Oahu is quickly becoming a tale of the haves and have-nots. Annual contender Moanalua beat Farrington 18-0 on Wednesday, getting hat tricks from Kelci Sumida and Sakari Bell to improve to 2-0 early in the season. Punahou boys take HPA Soccer tournament

The defending state champion Punahou boys soccer team cruised to the title at the Ka Makani Soccer Classic on Sunday, shutting out Hawaii Prep 1-0 in the title match. The Buffanblu shut out all three opponents in the tournament, beating Kealakehe 1-0 and Kapaa 5-0. Punahou has not given up a goal since the first round of last year’s state tournament, when it beat Radford 4-2 before pitching shutouts in the semifinals and finals. Pearl City boys take soccer showcase

The Pearl City boys soccer team stamped itself as a contender on Saturday. The Chargers, who lost in a penalty shootout in the first round of the OIA tournament last year, beat Kamehameha 2-1 to win the 808 Prep Soccer Showcase hosted by Kapolei on Saturday. Pearl City went 3-0 in the tournament, beating Iolani and Mililani in shootouts before taking out the Warriors in regulation. Pearl City beat Mililani in a shootout and will face Kamehameha in the championship of the 808 Prep Soccer Showcase hosted by Kapolei. The Warriors, who haven’t made the state tournament since 2011, shut out Kalani 2-0 to reach tonight’s 7 p.m. final. Baldwin was the big winner of the second day, scoring three goals while shutting out host Kapolei. Iolani beat ILH rival Mid-Pacific 1-0 in the other match. Shootouts rule in Prep Soccer Showcase

Defenses ruled in the first day of Kapolei’s Prep Soccer Showcase, with only one of the four matches having teams score more than one goal. Three of them went to shootouts, with Kalani winning the only match outright, 1-0 over Baldwin. The tournament takes Thanksgiving off before picking up again on Friday at Kapolei. Clash of champions at girls soccer tourney

The 33rd annual Castle-Leilehua girls soccer tournament filled out its field recently, and it’s a good one. The event begins Nov. 17 and ends with the championship two days later. The early rounds are split between Castle and Leilehua with the championship held on the Mules’ field. Defending state champion Pearl City headlines the field. Kapolei soccer tournament fills out field

The preseason boys soccer tournament held by Kapolei every year has gone through many different names and forms but it remains the elite preseason test on Oahu. This year’s 808 Prep Soccer Showcase will kick off Wednesday, Nov. 23 and run through Saturday with a day off for Thanksgiving.
