Wednesday’s Hawaii Grown section in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser profiles Saint Louis women’s soccer player Shaney Sakamoto, a 2013 graduate of Kamehameha.

You can read the feature here.

Sakamoto scored the first goal of the season for the Billikens, who at 7-2 matched their third-best mark in nonconference play heading into the start of Atlantic-10 play on Thursday against Dayton.

Sakamoto is a full-time starter this season and has already matched her career highs with two goals and four assists in nine games.

She is one of 57 players (51 women, 6 men) listed on Division I soccer rosters who graduated from Hawaii high schools. Here’s a complete list:

Ninety percent of these soccer players come from the ILH. Its very important for these higher institutions to mold and mentor our Hawaii athletes so that they can go on to have better careers and lives.
