Hawaii has 3 nationally ranked soccer teams

Three high school soccer teams from Hawaii are nationally ranked on the TopDrawerSoccer.com website. Kapolei, which recently won its 808 Showcase tournament with a 2-0 win over Baldwin in the final, is No. 46 in Top Drawer’s Fab 50, and defending state champion Punahou is No. 49. On the girls side, Pearl City is ranked No. 49.

Kapolei captures 808 soccer showcase

Host Kapolei beat Baldwin 2-0 on Saturday to win the 808 Prep Soccer Showcase. BJ Bantolina and Sean Yoshida scored the goals for the Hurricanes boys team, which also beat Kamehameha and defending Division I state champion Punahou in the tournament. Shootouts the rule in soccer showcase

The first night of the 808 Prep Soccer Showcase highlighted how close together the talent in boys soccer is this year. Three of the four matches went to a shootout, with Kapolei’s 3-0 win over Kamehameha being the only blowout. The other three matchups all featured rematches from last year’s state tournament, with all three rematches holding up. Oahu 14-year-old signed by pro club in Mexico

Cuauhtemoc Ochoa was going to be a ninth-grader at Moanalua this fall, but a soccer opportunity changed his plans. Ochoa, 14, was signed by Pachuca, a pro soccer club in Mexico, according to his club coach Hugo Gutierrez, who is also the head coach at Moanalua High.
