Shootouts the rule in soccer showcase

The first night of the 808 Prep Soccer Showcase highlighted how close together the talent in boys soccer is this year.

Three of the four matches went to a shootout, with Kapolei’s 3-0 win over Kamehameha being the only blowout. The other three matchups all featured rematches from last year’s state tournament, with all three rematches holding up.

There will be only two matches tonight at Kapolei with Mililani and Kaiser in the featured match at 8 p.m. Kapolei and Punahou will meet Saturday at 9 a.m. in an anticipated match.


At Kapolei:
Kapolei – 3 Kamehameha-Kapalama – 0

Punahou -1 Kalani – 1
(Punahou wins 4-2 in PK Shootout)


At Mililani:
Baldwin -1 Mililani -1
(Baldwin wins 9-8 in PK Shootout)

Iolani -0 Kaiser 0
(Iolani wins 3-2 in PK Shootout)


Tonight’s scheduled games at Kapolei:
6pm – Kamehameha-Kapalama vs. Kalani
8pm – Mililani vs. Kaiser

Saturday’s scheduled games at Kapolei:
9am – Kapolei vs. Punahou
11am – Baldwin vs. Iolani
1pm – Kamehameha-Kapalama/Kalani loser vs. Mililan/Kaiser loser
3pm – Kamehameha-Kapalama/Kalani winner vs. Mililan/Kaiser winner
5pm – Kapolei/Punahou loser vs. Baldwin/Iolani loser
7pm (Championship) – Kapolei/Punahou winner vs. Baldwin/Iolani winner
