Makekau’s third offer: Navy

The United States Naval Academy has offered ‘Iolani junior Keoni-Kordell Makekau a football scholarship. Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance shared the news on its Facebook page today. Makekau, a 5-foot-11, 166-pound wide receiver/slotback/placekicker, also has offers from Washington State and Hawaii. He won the ILH boys 100-meter dash recently with a time of 11.01 seconds. Nick Rolovich was a prolific passer at the University of Hawaii in his senior season. His coaching career at UH followed, and though he has since moved on to Nevada as an offensive coordinator, he continues to press hard in the islands. Tagovailoa’s 13th offer: Louisville

Louisville has reached out to the islands for a third time in this football offseason. The Cardinals, who already have scholarship offers to Kapolei’s Sean Auwae and Kaiser’s Michael Eletise, made an offer to Saint Louis’ Tua Tagovailoa. Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance posted the news on its Facebook page this morning. He’s been known to defer when it comes to media attention, but ‘Iolani junior Keoni-Kordell Makekau has emerged under the spotlight to become a true three-sport juggernaut. He chatted with Hawaii Prep World after another busy day on the track, winning the ILH championship in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.01 seconds. Maybe it’s the Mike Cavanaugh effect. Nebraska became the 15th FBS school to make a football scholarship offer to Mililani junior Vavae Malepeai recently. The Cornhuskers have Cavanaugh, the former UH offensive line coach on staff, and Nebraska was represented recently by Cavanaugh and other staffers during a tour of the islands.
