The boys from the Hukilau Cafe 7-man team are back home from Las Vegas with memories — and priceless winnings — for a lifetime. The team, coached by Darren Johnson, went 9-1 in the Pylon Las Vegas 7v7 Tournament. The team was unbeaten in pool play, then reached the quarterfinals before falling 29-27 to eventual champion Ground Zero of Seattle, Wash., in Sunday’s championship bracket. Reydan “Tita” Ahuna is working for the Punahou athletic department, associate athletic director Kale Ane confirmed Wednesday. Ahuna, the highly successful athlete and coach at various schools and levels, is an athletic associate for the department. “She is working with education for coaches at every level of the school,” Ane said. “She is getting input from successful coaches outside the school and learning about their processes and finding out what works and what may benefit our coaches. Punahou went all the way to the state final in football a year ago, but did not play a preseason game. Next year will be different. It appears Edison High of California will be coming to play the Buffablu on Aug. 21 at Aloha Stadium. The game is in the planning stages and not yet finalized, according to Punahou coach Kale Ane. Punahou tight end Matthew Christman signed his letter of intent and will be a preferred walk-on at Washington, Buffanblu coach Kale Ane confirmed Wednesday. Christman, a 6-foot-3, 235-pounder, caught seven passes for 127 yards and a TD during Punahou’s ILH championship season that ended with a loss to Mililani in the state title game. In other late signing news Wednesday, Kamehameha offensive lineman Radson Jang selected Army, and Punahou defensive back Robert Straton chose Dartmouth.
