LIVE BLOG: Saint Louis at Mililani

By Paul Honda on August 16, 2014

5:30 p.m. JV game is entering the fourth quarter. Saint Louis leads Mililani 18-14. It’s a beautiful, sunny, breezy afternoon at John Kauinana Stadium. The kind of day that makes me feel grateful to be alive and enjoying another great high school game. Still thinking about Kapolei and the loss of a player’s dad at the Kahuku game last night. My thoughts and prayers are with the young man, his family and the Hurricane ohana. The varsity game here is […]

No. 2 Mililani All-State football

By Jerry Campany on August 6, 2014

Every year is the year of the Trojan. Mililani, for long an also-ran in state football, has had a player selected first team All-State every year since 2002. That is the longest active streak. Kahuku’s string stretched to 1997 before being shut out last year. The Trojans started their run in 2003 when Mikhail Mabry and Sene Ma’afala were selected and might have reached its peak last year with six selections. KK Padello led the way for the Trojans with […]

Nick’s notebook: Scrimmage week

By Nick Abramo on August 1, 2014

Things learned, observed and taken in by osmosis while waltzing around various high school football training camps for a week: >> Kapolei running back Ronald Young won the best running back award at the All-Polynesian camp in Utah this summer. >> Hurricanes coach Darren Hernandez said his team could still be a factor even if it starts 0-3, which is a possibility since it opens the regular season at Kahuku, vs. Farrington at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium, and at home […]

Mililani picks up where it left off in OIA

By Nick Abramo on August 1, 2014

Central Oahu was rocking Thursday night as Mililani visited Leilehua and put a 48-21 hurt on the Mules in a preseason football scrimmage at a packed Hugh Yoshida Stadium. The contest between arch rivals was run like a real game with real referees, and a scoreboard clock, and Mililani’s Kainoa Wilson showed how much of a real deal he is by scoring four touchdowns, including two through the air from McKenzie Milton. “It’s a scrimmage, that’s all it is,” said […]

Rivals will make a run at each other

By Jerry Campany on July 22, 2014

When the OIA’s new divisions and schedule were announced over the summer, there was one glaring omission — No Mililani-Leilehua rivalry game unless the teams happen to meet in the playoffs. Problem solved, sort of. Coaches for both schools got together and decided to honor the rivalry and schedule a scrimmage Thursday, July 31 at Leilehua. There will be no admission charged, but there will be certainly be a full house. Mules coach Nolan Tokuda says it will be run […]

Mililani all-state football, state championship era

By Jerry Campany on July 7, 2014

Kahuku was shut out of the first team on last year’s Star-Advertiser All-State football first team, the first time the school didn’t have someone mentioned on a newspaper’s first team since 1997. That leaves Mililani with the longest current OIA streak, getting a player on the first team every year since 2002. Saint Louis has been represented every year since 1982. Here is a list of all of the first-team all state players from Mililani in the state championship era. […]

Fehoko, Uluave at Oakland Nike

By Paul Honda on May 19, 2014

Some great footage of OL-versus-DL one-on-one (no pad) drills. Farrington defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko and Punahou offensive lineman Semisi Uluave look terrific against the top guys in the Oakland Nike Football Training Camp. Also in the footage is DL Salanoa Alo-Wily (Kahuku) and DT Rex Manu (Mililani). Fehoko (6-3, 285) has already committed to play for Texas Tech. He will be a senior this fall.

Video: #1 Punahou vs #2 Mililani

By Paul Honda on November 26, 2013

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 It was one of the most sudden changes in momentum this season, perhaps for all state-championship football games. Mililani was down 28-8 when the comeback began, and the Trojans’ trickery led to a finish that was as memorable as the 2013 season was.
