Kapolei had its third string quarterback starting and he learned quickly what the Kahuku defense is all about. Freddie Gregorio, a junior, wound up getting sacked 11 times as the Red Raiders took the bus ride home from Kapolei to the North Shore with a 39-0 victory Friday night. Kapolei’s more experienced quarterbacks Noa Bailey (collarbone) and Mason Gomez (ankle) are out with injuries. Kapolei receiver De’Zhaun Stribling looked awfully good Friday for a guy who missed the entire week of practice leading up to the game. Stribling, a senior, caught 10 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown as host Kapolei prevailed 31-28 over Downey (Calif.) in a nonleague game. Freshman quarterback John-Keawe Sagapolutele passed for 217 yards and two TDs and running back Vincent Terrell scores two TDs in Punahou’s 44-13 win at No. 8 Kapolei. Punahou improved to 4-0 overall (3-0 ILH Open Division). Alaka‘i Gilman and Jonah Henry return interceptions for touchdowns to spark Punahou’s defense, which had not allowed a touchdown all season until Kapolei’s Jayven Reyes scored with 2:26 to go in the second quarter.
