Brennan, Masani are ULS’s athletes of year

Pac-Five wide receiver Tsubasa Brennan was picked as University Laboratory School’s male athlete of the year, athletic director Jim Bukes announced Saturday. Basketball and volleyball player Markayisha Masani was chosen as the Junior Rainbows’ female athlete of the year. The school’s athletic award winners for 2014-15 are listed below. Mililani’s Wilson, Shinsato are athletes of year

Mililani’s Kainoa Wilson and Haylie Shinsato are Mililani’s male and female athletes of the year, Trojans athletic director Glenn Nitta announced Friday. Wilson was a wide receiver in football and an outfielder in baseball. Shinsato was a Trojans judoka as well as a member of the state championship girls soccer team. Kahuku rugby club is runner-up in San Diego

The Danville Oaks Rugby team defeated the Kahuku Red Raiders High School Rugby Club 8-5 in the championship game of the Pacific Cup Invitational in San Diego on Saturday. Punahou repeats as Water Polo champ

Emma Choy scored two goals and Kelly Fricke and Marissa Miller each added one as Punahou won its eighth straight state water polo title on Saturday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center. The Buffanblu beat Kamehameha 4-2 in the final. It was Punahou’s fourth win in four tries against the Warriors this season. Choy and Fricke scored in all three matches in the tournament. Ganir scored in all four matches the Warriors played.

Hockey popular among Hawaii’s prep athletes

Everett Lau pitched for ‘Iolani against Punahou on Friday. He wasn’t involved in the decision. E.J. Abramo ran in the OIA JV track and field championships last Saturday. What the two athletes have in common is an appearance in the North American Roller Hockey Championships in January.
