Former Saint Louis standout Jordan Iosefa will start at middle linebacker for USC in its season opener against Western Michigan on Saturday, according to an Associated Press story. The sophomore will be starting in place of junior Cam Smith, who was called for targeting and ejected in a 52-49 win over Penn State in the 2017 Rose Bowl. Former Kahuku star Alohi Gilman will not be eligible to play for Notre Dame this season after transferring in the offseason from Navy. Gilman started all 12 games as a freshman for the Midshipmen and earned all-conference honors. The Fighting Irish asked the NCAA for a waiver that would have allowed Gilman to be eligible this year, but the request was denied. UNLV senior and 2014 Moanalua graduate John Oda told Golfweek that he will skip his senior season of eligibility with the Rebels and turn pro.
