Kamehameha-Pearl City update: Warriors sweep

PUKALANI >> Kamehameha has won the first two sets 25-12, 25-12 against Pearl City in opening-round play of the HHSAA Division I Girls Volleyball State Championships at KS-Maui’s campus. More soon. UPDATE, 10:37 p.m.: Kamehameha wins in three sets, 25-12, 25-12, 25-17. Pearl City seemed as cold as the weather outside — winds were 30-40 mph at times, leveling rain sideways. The Chargers made it real interesting in the third set, but by then, it was a little too late.

Castle-Waiakea update: Final

PUKALANI >> Two sets are done and it’s even between Castle and Waiakea in the opening round of the HHSAA Division I Girls Volleyball State Championships at the Kamehameha-Maui campus. Waiakea won the first set 25-19 and Castle took the second 25-21. Waiakea is the runner-up from the Big Island Interscholastic Federation. Here’s footage from the girls volleyball scrimmage between No. 2 Punahou and No. 3 Molokai played on Monday at Hemmeter Fieldhouse. Punahou won all four sets 28-26, 25-19, 25-11, 15-13. They were swept away by Punahou’s talent and depth, but the Molokai Farmers are relishing their trip to Oahu. In need of competition, coach Matthew Helm sought out the best and got his dream matchups.
