Kapolei defensive tackle Kalani Vakameilalo had his mind on Oregon State. Now the Beavers have his oral commitment. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound senior committed to OSU on Wednesday night, Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez confirmed. Poi Report: ASU offers Kapolei’s Fernandez

Kapolei linebacker/defensive end Kingston Fernandez has been offered a football scholarship by Arizona State. Hurricanes coach Darren Hernandez confirmed the offer this afternoon. Fernandez is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound senior who is an NCAA academic qualifier, the coach added. Also, Kapolei defensive tackle Kalani Vakameilalo has also been made an offer by Arizona State. Vakameilalo (6-4, 290) has offers from Boise State, Kansas, Nevada, Pitt, San Diego State, Washington State and Wyoming.

Govs in Mokuleia: A final visit

The Ortiz ohana requested that the Farrington Governors football team come to Mokuleia one last time, so coach Randall Okimoto and his squad made the trek on Tuesday. The Govs had been to the beach where Dayne Ortiz suddenly disappeared, lost in the sea. They were there on Sunday and Monday as search crews worked valiantly. After a season-opening loss to Punahou, the Trojans were mostly dominant in the OIA Red West, and then through the playoffs. Could Farrington trip the men of Troy? A vigil for Dayne

The vigil for Dayne Ortiz at Farrington High School on Monday night drew about 1,000. Our staff at the Star-Advertiser covered it. Here is a photo gallery by photographer Bruce Asato. The Farrington High School community has drawn closer together through the heartbreaking disappearance of Farrington football player Dayne Ortiz. The cornerback was part of a defensive unit that became one of the best in the state. Coach Randall Okimoto calls Ortiz one of the team’s most improved players.
