Wily-Matagi flips from Utah to Oregon State

Kahuku senior Tuli Wily-Matagi announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he has changed his college commitment and will instead attend Oregon State over Utah. “I’ve decided to flip my commitment over to Oregon State,” he wrote on Twitter. “Want to thank everyone who supported me through this decision. #GoBeavs” Wily-Matagi threw for 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns and ran for 277 yards and four scores last season, and he led Kahuku to a 9-3 record and an OIA Red division […]

Leslie’s family votes to keep coach at Kahuku

Lee Leslie will return to Kahuku to coach football for a second season. Leslie, who spent the holidays with his family in Idaho, is flying back to Hawaii on Sunday to resume his job as a seventh-grade character education teacher and gear up for the Red Raiders’ 2015 season next fall. Punahou offensive lineman Semisi Uluave will visit two more colleges recruiting him and plans to make his decision on where to play football on Feb. 4, national letter of intent signing day. Uluave, who has numerous scholarship offers, has a list of top three choices — UCLA, Oregon and Texas Tech — not in any order. He will visit Texas Tech and UCLA this month. Three players from Hawaii were selected to play in the 2015 Under Armour All-America game today in St. Petersburg, Fla. The game is being shown live on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. Saint Louis offensive lineman Fred Ulu-Perry (6-3, 307), who is committed to UCLA, is listed as the No. 4 offensive guard prospect by ESPN.com but is expected to play center for the Bruins. Ex-Baldwin coach Kauhaahaa at OSU

The Oregonian reported on Tuesday that former Baldwin coach Chad Kauhaahaa has moved from Wisconsin to Oregon State, following his head coach, Gary Andersen. Baldwin transformed into an MIL football dynasty during Kauhaahaa’s years there. Maui ended the Bears’ stranglehold on D-I MIL football this year. Kalani Sitake left Utah to become OSU’s defensive coordinator. Sitake and Kahaahaa have recruited the islands extensively over the years.

Mililani at No. 21 nationally

The Mililani Trojans football team is ranked No. 21 in the latest USA Today Super 25 national football rankings released on Monday.  In another poll, Mililani is at No. 24 by the CBS MaxPreps Computer Football Rankings released on Monday. The Trojans (13-0) won the Hawaii state championship on Nov. 21. Bishop Gorman (Nev.) is atop the USA Today poll while De La Salle (Calif.) is the No. 1 team MaxPreps computer rankings.
