Here is what is going down: FB: Fagaitua vs. Saint Louis FB: Kaiser at Kahuku FB: Kalaheo vs. Kalani at Kaiser FB: Waianae at Castle FB: McKinley at […]

LIVE BLOG: Saint Louis 55, Faga‘itua 6, F

By Paul Honda on August 21, 2015

It’s only 5:10 p.m., more than two hours from kickoff, but the Faga‘itua Vikings are already on the turf here at Aloha Stadium. No helmets or pads yet. Just getting their feet acclimated to the synthetic turf here. Even in just shorts and their bright red jersey tops, they look relaxed, focused and in sync. What else would we expect from one of the premier programs from American Samoa. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. There are questions floating out […]

LIVE BLOG: Kalani 28, Kalaheo 6, F

By Billy Hull on August 21, 2015

An 0-2 start for either Kalani or Kalaheo in OIA Division-II play would make reaching the playoffs an extremely challenging task. The Falcons have made it each of the past two seasons but have started 0-2 overall for only the second time dating back to 2010. Their two losses are by a total of seven points. Kalaheo has lost its last five games in league play but scored two touchdowns in the second half last week against defending OIA D-II […]

By Paul Honda on August 21, 2015

(Here’s more about the Faga‘itua Vikings, who will play No. 2 Saint Louis tonight at Aloha Stadium. They have been on Oahu since Aug. 1. The weekend prep football preview is in this morning’s Star-Advertiser. Subscriber content.) The Faga‘itua Vikings’ voyage began with hard work and sweat back home. “We thank all our families and our community back home,” Coach Suaese “Pooch” Ta‘ase said. “We had to raise $125,000 to get here. We did every kind of fundraising there is. […]

Campbell’s Ramos back in football mode

By Billy Hull on August 19, 2015

Campbell junior Markus Ramos spent 43 days away from home this past summer. Trust me when I say it was worth it. The 6-foot-3 wide receiver on the Sabers football team got noticed on the mound pitching for the Trosky Baseball traveling team. Despite throwing only “eight or nine” innings for the eventual state champion Sabers baseball team in the spring, Ramos was impressive enough early in the summer to draw attention from a host of Division I colleges. One […]

Yearly OIA test awaits ‘Iolani

By Billy Hull on August 19, 2015

Back in its Division II days, this was the week that would give ‘Iolani an idea of how it might fare against a Division I schedule. This year, it’s a preview of things to come. The Raiders haven’t been afraid to test themselves against good nonleague competition, playing 10 games against OIA Division I teams in the month of August dating back to 2006. ‘Iolani has gone 3-7 in those games, beating Waipahu, Waianae and Kapolei. Aug. 17, 2013: Leilehua […]

Anuenue forfeits Saturday’s game vs. Kaimuki

By Nick Abramo on August 18, 2015

For the second week in a row, Anuenue is forfeiting its football game due to a lack of players available to play, Oahu Interscholastic Association football coordinator Harold Tanaka said Tuesday. Last week, Na Koa forfeited its game to Radford. This week, they are forfeiting the contest against Kaimuki that was scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Kaiser Stadium. Anuenue head coach Keli‘i Pio Adams said last week that his squad of 23 was down to just 17 due […]
