Nine of the 12 spots in the upcoming Division I and D-II football state tournaments are secured. The three other spots will be determined this week. Hilo, Konawaena are BIIF football champs

Hilo topped host Kealakehe 41-20 in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I football championship game on Saturday. Last Friday, Konawaena defeated visiting Kamehameha-Hawaii 44-21 in the BIIF Division II title game. Both Hilo and Konawaena will represent the BIIF in the upcoming state tournament. In the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, Kapaa finished an undefeated championship regular season with a 36-0 win over Waimea. The Warriors will be going to the D-II state tourney. As always, Kahuku ran the ball a lot in their most recent game. Not only that, the Red Raiders had QB Kesi Ah-Hoy carry the ball on each of their first 21 offensive plays. He rushed for 133 yards in those 21 attempts, and finished with 23 carries for 174 yards before leaving with an injury during the second quarter. Below is a list of Kauai Interscholastic Federation football championship teams and head coaches since 1944, thanks in part to John Altomare at Waimea High School. Most of the information comes from a program published in KIF programs in the mid-1990s. He was once a fourth-string running back. Before that, he was listed as a wide receiver. Saitaua Lefau is now a key cog in the Saint Louis offense. The senior scored three touchdowns in the Crusaders 27-23 win over Punahou, bringing the ILH football title to Kalaepohaku.
