Latu visits Oregon State; 2 trips planned

Kahuku’s Hirkley Latu enjoyed his official visit to Oregon State last week, according to his father, Peni Latu. Latu is being recruited as a hybrid linebacker/strong safety, Peni Latu said. Hirkley has official visits lined up to Utah State this week and BYU next week. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Latu was an outside linebacker for the part Red Raiders’ Division I state championship team and made the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State first team. UH coaches visit Leilehua’s Muti

University of Hawaii football defensive coordinator and Kevin Lempa and defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa went to Leilehua’s wrestling practice last week to reconfirm the school’s interest in Mules defensive lineman Netane Muti. Radford hires Lon Passos as football coach

Lon Passos is the new football head coach at Radford, Rams athletic director Kelly Sur wrote in an email to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World on Tuesday. Passos was an offensive line coach for Radford from 1997 through this past season, when the Rams went 13-0 and won the Division II state championship as well as the Oahu Interscholastic Association title under head coach coach Fred Salanoa. Baldwin officially released as Hilo coach

The investigation into a complaint lodged against suspended Hilo football coach David Baldwin is complete and it’s now official that he will not be returning as the Vikings’ coach, according to Department of Education spokesperson Lindsay Chambers. No reason for the complaint and who made the complaint was given out by the Hilo administration or the Department of Education due to a privacy policy. He was placed on indefinite leave in August. McKnight applies to coach at Moanalua

Dennis McKnight, the former University of Hawaii assistant football coach, confirmed Thursday that he applied for the vacant Moanalua High head coaching job. McKnight said he is also going to apply at Kamehameha for the Warriors’ vacant head coaching job when the school begins accepting applications from candidates in the near future.
