Cal Lee recovering well after surgery

A lot of people were wondering why head coach Cal Lee missed No. 1 Saint Louis’ 21-7 victory over Kamehameha on Saturday. According to his brother, assistant coach Ron Lee, Cal Lee had a kidney stones problem. Ron Lee added that Cal had surgery on Monday and was in the recovery room in the afternoon. “I spoke with his son and from what he tells me Cal is doing well,” Ron Lee told Hawaii Prep World via cellphone Monday afternoon. Molokai takes MIL 8-man regular-season title

Molokai traveled to Seabury Hall and defeated the Spartans 49-21 to capture the Maui Interscholastic League 8-man football regular-season crown. The defending champion Farmers (3-0) also gained the league’s top seed in the playoffs and will play Hana (0-3) on the weekend of Oct. 21-22 in the semifinals. Kohala, Ka‘u, Pahoa in 3-way BIIF 8-man tie

Kohala defeated Ka‘u 24-14 on Saturday to throw the Big Island Interscholastic Federation 8-man football standings into a three-way tie for first place among the three teams. The defending champion Cowboys, Dragons (2014 champions), and the Pahoa Daggers are all 2-2, and all three teams will all play each other once more trying to gain an edge. Waiakea gains a spot in D-I state FB tourney

Waiakea clinched a spot in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I football championship game with a 29-14 home victory over Kealakehe on Saturday. The Warriors (3-6, 3-2), who will play BIIF regular-season winner Hilo (6-1 6-0) on the weekend of Oct. 21-22 for the overall league championship, joins the Vikings in the Division I state tournament. Lahainaluna locks up spot in D-II state FB tourney

By virtue of its 36-10 victory at Kamehameha-Maui on Saturday, Lahainaluna clinched the Maui Interscholastic League Division II football championship and earned a berth in the D-II state tournament. It’s the 10th straight MIL D-II championship and for the Lunas (5-3, 4-2). The last MIL D-II champion other than Lahainaluna was King Kekaulike in 2006. Kapaa loses lots of steam in KIF football

Instead of clinching a third straight Kauai Interscholastic Federation football championship like most people expected, Kapaa (6-1, 4-1) was hit with a surprise left hook by Kauai High on Saturday. The Red Raiders (1-6, 1-4) won their first game of the season, topping the two-time defending KIF champion Warriors 20-17 at Vidinha Stadium. Fresh off a 44-6 win over King Kekaulike, the Baldwin Bears returned to the Star-Advertiser’s high school football poll at the No. 8 spot this week.
