A lot of people were wondering why head coach Cal Lee missed No. 1 Saint Louis’ 21-7 victory over Kamehameha on Saturday.

According to his brother, assistant coach Ron Lee, Cal Lee had a kidney stones problem.

Ron Lee added that Cal had surgery on Monday and was in the recovery room in the afternoon.

“I spoke with his son and from what he tells me Cal is doing well,” Ron Lee told Hawaii Prep World via cellphone Monday afternoon.

As brothers sometimes do, Ron put the pressure on Cal, kiddingly.

“I hope we see him at practice tomorrow (Tuesday). We need him,” Ron Lee said.

The Crusaders (6-1, 5-1) play ‘Iolani in an ILH second-round (single-elimination tournament) matchup on Friday.

Defensive backs coach Wes Tufaga was the Crusaders’ acting head coach in Lee’s absence for the win over Kamehameha.

Cal Lee is the winningest coach in Hawaii high school football history.

Geezus, i had kidney stones back in the early 90’s and you talk about pain…….when it comes, its the worse feeling you can ever experience…..you never know where or when it will hit you and geezus, I remember sitting in one of the theaters at Ward Plaza when my kidney stones acted up and my friend had to have the theatre officials call for emergency…talk about pain….i wish this on no one….hope Cal recovers ……….wishing him the best.

    Real Classy…808RRFL

It’s hilarious because I didn’t see that kind of talk when Bishop Gorman man handled you guys. That’s what happens when you folks play a team the SAME SIZE with much better talent and an offense thats not a one trick pony! You sure talk a big game when you outsize all the teams in Hawaii…so show some class when someone is in recovery!! One more thing, put down the weights and pick up a book and read. Your grammar skills need some work!

Does this mean they are grooming Wes Tufaga to eventually take over for Cal Lee? Why not Vince dos Passos?

Even if you HATE St. Louis, no decent human being would EVER wish kidney stones on another. I hope Coach Cal recovers and never experiences the agonizing pain that kidney stones can cause.

808 RR4L, be careful of how you talk, because you might be the one to get a Heart Attack, no class the way you talk, I know all Kahuku people don’t talk like that, but you must be the bad one. 9ygc

As strong as a supporter I am of Kahuku, comments by 808 RR4L probably is written by a VILLAGE IDIOT and I’m sure most of the fans in Kahuku wishes Cal Lee a speedy recovery ‘n don’t share your negative views.

    @Mahatma Gandhi
They need to groom someone that can keep boosters giving to the school & team. Thats the key to STL future……..

As a die hard supporter and alum of Kahuku I only post in Kahuku articles but my cousin and Laie neighbor Wes Tufaga was mentioned as the backup HC in this article.

St. Louis is in good hands if Wes is the future. Sadlly for me and the RR nation that would mean a bigger pipeline from Kahuku to the ILH.

btw* 808RR4L is not from Kahuku he has no insights or posts anything relevant to that side of the island or the RR football program…..just a troll and troublemaker.
