Punahou duo, Sarono added to Polynesian Bowl

Punahou quarterback Nick Kapule and wide receiver Ethan Takeyama, along with Kapolei receiver Jaymin Sarono, have all accepted invites to play in the Polynesian Bowl on Jan. 21, 2017, at Aloha Stadium. The bowl game will announce the additions on Tuesday. Kapule (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) finished the season completing 60 percent (177-for-295) of his passes for 2,798 yards and 31 touchdowns with nine interceptions. It took all the Leilehua Mules had to rally from a 15-0 deficit against Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I champion Hilo. The visiting Mules went ahead on a 7-yard touchdown run by QB Kona Andres, who took on four tacklers en route to the end zone. Kapolei came up with five sacks, all by its defensive line, in a 33-21 upset victory on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. Waianae and Saint Louis renew rivalry

Waianae and Saint Louis have a knack for meeting in inaugural events. When the Prep Bowl was instituted in 1973, legendary Waianae coach Larry Ginoza led the Seariders to a 6-0 win over the Crusaders in the first of eight meetings between the schools in the annual OIA-ILH postseason classic. Saint Louis has owned the series since. The programs met in the Prep Bowl seven times in a 12-year stretch from 1986 to 1997 during the Crusaders’ decade-plus of dominance. […]
