Punahou dropped out of the Star-Advertiser’s top four for the first time since 2011. Jamm Aquino / Star-Advertiser

For the third week in a row, panelists in the Star-Advertiser’s football poll expect Kahuku and Saint Louis to still be standing when the state championship rolls around.

The Red Raiders took every first-place vote and ruled in the top spot for the 15th straight week, dating back to last year, in the latest Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 rankings released Monday.

Beware, though, Kahuku, the last two years it was the No. 2 team for much of the year that came out No. 1 at the end, including last year’s Kahuku squad.

Kapolei, which can derail Kahuku’s repeat in the semifinals, moved up to a program-best No. 3, followed by Waianae.

That’s where it gets strange. Punahou dropped outside the top four for the first time since the beginning of November in 2011.

Mlilani and Campbell are the highest rated Division I teams in the poll at seven and eight and Konawaena enters the rankings as the lone Division II squad. It is the first time in the Star-Advertiser rankings for the Wildcats since just before the state tournament in 2012. Hilo dropped out after two weeks at No. 10.

Just missing out were ‘Iolani, Kapaa, Kamehameha and Lahainaluna.

Punahoe not in the top 3? This is old news, hhsaa said that 13 days ago.

This is not dissing punahoe, but the hhsaa bogus seeding.

  2. Hadafakaya November 7, 2016 7:29 pm

    Kahuku going Buckaloose!

  3. anywaaaays!! November 7, 2016 7:47 pm

Yup, if the HHSAA had an ounce of integrity they would have released their seeding formula during the regular season. Whats so hard about letting the public know that the brackets are going to look like this…

    BracketA:
    OIA1, ILH2, OIA3
    BracketB:
    ILH1, OIA2, OIA4

..The xfactor was Kapolei because the HHSAA wanted Kapolei to play in BracketA to avoid a rematch with Farrington(OIA2) in BracketB, so they couldnt tell us where the OIA3/4 teams were going to be placed until after that game was played.

Considering BracketA is Kahuku, the over-all #1 team in the state, wouldnt you think the OIA3 team would go into the B bracket so that the #1 team in the state would have the easier bracket? that is why HHSAA was hoping that Kapolei would lose and be the OIA#4 so that it would work out that way but it didnt.

Im not saying that there is a conspiracy against Kahuku, Im just saying that the HHSAA is willing to compromise their integrity for their own personal agendas.

@anywaaays give it a break already brah! Time to send the boys good vibrations and you’re just being a cry baby, you give us Red Raiders a bad name.

  5. Jason Keuma November 7, 2016 8:52 pm

It’s is consistancy that is desired.

  6. Norhshore November 8, 2016 5:29 am

This 3 tier playoffs has received many negative opinions since it was approved by HHSAA. Next year, the Hawaii state public high schools should have their own State Division I and II football championship. The Hawaii private high schools should have their own championship and include Bishop Gorman since the public high schools in Nevada don’t want them in their league.

  7. H-town November 8, 2016 5:56 am

I watch konawaena play n they are good but they not punahou good!!! Every team on this list would smash konawaena and not just beat em! Just sayin

  8. Chloropicrin November 8, 2016 4:37 pm

There was a time when Konaweana could have probably competed with mid OIA teams, until Kealekehe was built.

  9. Hauula93 November 8, 2016 9:40 pm

All I gotta say is punahou/Kapolei was a great game and great games is what we really want… Not who has the easier bracket or this formula is crap… TO BE THE BEST, YOU GOTTA BEAT THE BEST… Let jus play ball… Don’t you know the mountain is coming… RRFL… GOOD LUCK TO ALL… PREPRATION IS THE KEY…

  10. TheHeartlessPrick November 9, 2016 7:06 am

Article is irrelevant. We’re in playoff play, rankings mean nothing until the last winner stands alone.
Hawaii Prep World adding hype to a team that got eliminated after the 1st round. Worry about the remaining teams not the ones that didn’t show up for the playoffs.

  11. Education First November 9, 2016 8:27 am

Obviously Punahou was not the 3rd best team like so many people cried about. In retrospect the HHSAA did a fine job placing the teams.

They didn’t factor in a meaningless poll that many posters like 88 treat as the Holy Grail.

Kahuku who should win the state title doesn’t have to face a pretty good Punahou team who was a little over-rated by some, and 88 can stop crying about conspiracies.

And for the record I will give up my job and work as a clown since I love to entertain 88.

I am not sure if 88 can stop being an idiot. Is it possible to leave his job as in idiot? I am thinking no, since it’s probably an innate quality.

  12. 88 November 9, 2016 9:52 am

Well look who it is. Fresh off his Gold Medal performance in the sausage games. How you doing clown?

  13. Education First November 9, 2016 10:11 am

Hi 88 (the guy who was too scared to show up in public). I am doing great idiot. I see you have stopped crying about Punahou having to play Kahuku.

Obviously you were wrong with your assessment of Punahou being the “clear” #3 team since they lost.

But then again that is why anyone with half a brain knows not to take anything you say seriously.

I am still impressed how you can talk to yourself (88, anywaays, too meke) all at the same time within minutes. That is impressive for someone who is a chicken to come out from being his fake NAMES who is by far the dumbest person on this blog if not the world.

    Chicken = 88

Every once in awhile the sun shines on a dogs @$$. Remember your post on anomalies? Well that game was one of them. I see you are able to post now. Good to know your mom finally paid the electric bill.

  15. Education First November 9, 2016 10:54 am

“My mom paid the electric bill!” HAHAHA. How do you come up with this stuff? This post is:

    1) original
    2) innovative
    3) creative
    4) articulate

HAHAHA, I cannot stop laughing! My mom paid the electric bill!!! It is so funny! You are the next Redd Foxx!

I have to use that one day, “My mom paid the electric bill.” HAHA. I will remember to use that one If I ever get into a “Yo momma” battle with a someone in pre-school.

I have no issue being a clown. A clown is:

    1. a comic entertainer, especially one in a circus, wearing a traditional costume and exaggerated makeup.

    2. archaic, an unsophisticated country person; a rustic.

    3. behave in a comical way; act playfully.

Now let’s be honest 88. You did not know the second definition of the word. Everyone know by my writing that I am the furthest thing from archaic. I also do not live in the country. But if you have to call me a clown to make yourself feel better, then I will take it for the team.

BUT, when I call you a moron, fool, or idiot, I am referring to :

    1) moron – a stupid person.

    2) fool – a person who acts unwisely or imprudently; a silly person.

    3) idiot – a stupid person.

Yeah, I would rather be a clown who likes sausages then a moron, fool, or idiot. But then again, these words are probably not in your vocabulary. You are welcome for putting the definitions to inform you.

  17. 88 November 9, 2016 11:43 am

Isnt “behaving in a comical way” and “a silly person” the same thing? So by your definition your a foolish sausage loving clown. Now that’s funny. But why the hell would you want to battle anyone in pre-school? I get it. It will be a fair fight intellectually. Good job clown.

  18. NoCry November 9, 2016 12:29 pm

eh @educationfirst & @88 – let me know if you two really get together to settle your differences – I’d like to witness who can back up their words!!!

  19. Education First November 9, 2016 1:02 pm

@noCry, 88 will not show. He will blame the ILH & HHSAA for something as ridiculous as shutting down the highway, or holding his welfare check, or telling his P.O. that he isn’t allowed to leave the county.

Well you check out pre-schoolers and I don’t comment on it? Remember the R.O. the judge put on you that said you are not allowed to be within 100 feet of children which is why you are not a part of the Kahuku team?

Silly means: “having or showing a lack of thought, understanding, or good judgment; foolish or stupid; not practical or sensible; not serious, meaningful, or important.”

Comical means: “producing laughter; amusing; funny.” http://www.dictionary.com/browse/comical

You really are dumb. You think silly and comical have the same definitions! HAHAHA! You are such an idiot it’s ridiculous. Then thinking the two words mean the same thing, you write about it and think YOU GOT ME!

    Man, read a damn book!

  21. 88 November 9, 2016 2:16 pm

There you go again trying to make friends. Nobody cares clown. You are here to entertain me not play hide the hotdog with NoCry.

  22. NoCry November 9, 2016 3:57 pm

88 please don’t get me involved with your foreplay – I just want to see who can back up their words…

  23. RAM FOR LIFE November 9, 2016 4:42 pm

    My CONTINUING POINT!
6th SEEDED TEAM (last week) playing 2nd seeded team this week
5th SEEDED TEAM (last week) playing 1st seeded team this week
Uhh!! -highest seeded team should be playing remaining lowest seed. Don’t let them think they are doing this right, by going by THIS WEEKS rankings. I been telling everybody they
should wait and see how first round goes first.-because upsets happen-DID HAPPEN!

  24. RAM FOR LIFE November 9, 2016 4:59 pm

Oh Yea…you don’t want me start on about div. 1 tournament?
What- #2 seed going play #3 seed in 2nd round!

I love how 88 CHOOSES not to reply when he is shut down due to his ignorance and just being plain dumb. Yes, yes, yes, I know it’s often, but let’s examine.

    88 writes, “88 November 9, 2016 at 11:43 am

88, seriously man, do you not know the difference between the two words? It’s not that high level. In my estimation, it’s probably a 2nd-3rd grade level word.

And based on your statement on the top, you think they are the same? Really?

And you have the audacity to call anyone names. Other than calling you a pedophile which your R.O. proves, I cannot think of anything worse than being an idiot, moron, or just plain stupid.

You call me out and try to be funny. But the funny thing is you don’t even know the definitions of elementary school words.

I LOVE BEING A CLOWN, as long as I never have to be an idiot like you.

The ironic (and just plain sad) thing is you think you are insulting people, but you use words out of context and instead of trying to insult others, you are just proving to the world how dumb you are.

Thank you for the 1587 post to illustrate that point.

I know, I know, “I am a clown who is here to entertain you.” Yes we all know this.

I will be a clown, as long as you PROMISE not to hurt yourself since you will NEVER be a part of the Kahuku Football team which you desperatley want to be a aprt of. And, you enroll in night school for adults.

My grandson has some books he can share with you. She has the Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Lorax.

Maybe one day, shall we dare, to say that you can move up to more challenging books such as Frog and Toad are Friends!

You can do it 88! Reach for the stars buddy!

And yes, I am a clown. I love to entertain everyone and make them laugh…..at your expense.

  28. Education First November 10, 2016 9:30 am

FYI, I apologize for the typos in my post. See, I have been going to night school to be a clown to appease 88.

Now to be fair, I hope 88 goes to Night School to learn elementary school level vocabulary.

I will start him off with some sight words to get him moving in the right direction:

    -I
    -See
    -A
    -Boy
    -Can
    -Dog
    -Cat
    -Blue
    -Road

88, I know this is challenging for you. But you got to start somewhere buddy! You can do it! We are all pulling for you!

  29. 88 November 10, 2016 3:54 pm

You don’t need to go to night school to be a clown. Your posts qualify you for that already. I use one word to describe you. You have to write paragraph upon paragraph to try and get your message across. No wonder you battle pre-schoolers and debate retarded kids. A Clown is an idiot, a moron and a fool all wrapped in one. These are the characteristics of a Clown. All of which you possess. You think you entertain me like how a singer or a dancer entertains? Are you serious? Thats funny Clown. And come on now, you know very well Clowns are not capable of having grandkids. Your so silly(another Clown trait you possess).

“I love how EducationAL85 CHOOSES not to reply when he is shut down due to his ignorance and just being plain dumb. Yes, yes, yes, I know it’s often.” Popular quote amongst Clowns.

  31. Education First November 21, 2016 9:32 am

88 is such an idiot. His writing is so tired! And he uses half the word he doesn’t understand out of context.
