Days after winning his second state football title and first in his third stint as Saint Louis coach, Cal Lee told the Star-Advertiser’s Dave Reardon he “really doesn’t know” if he’ll return for a 25th season in 2017. Kahuku’s Kaniho lands in national record book

According to National Federation of High School (NFHS) records, Kekaula Kaniho of Kahuku ranks second all-time for most interceptions returned for touchdowns in one season. Kaniho, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior, finished the season five pick-sixes for OIA champion Kahuku. That ties him with Isaiah Keyes of Notth Hagerstown, Md., who had his five in 2013. Three weeks after successful surgery to remove a kidney stone, Saint Louis coach Cal Lee guided the Crusaders to their first state championship since 2010, upsetting No. 1 Kahuku 30-14 in the Open Division final of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships at Aloha Stadium.

Saint Louis quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Punahou quarterback Nick Kapule were named co-offensive most valuable players while Punahou defensive lineman Miki Suguturaga was named defensive MVP in Division I. The Saint Louis Crusaders end the 2016 season atop the final Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10 rankings of the season released Monday.
