According to National Federation of High School (NFHS) records, Kekaula Kaniho of Kahuku ranks second all-time for most interceptions returned for touchdowns in one season.

Kaniho, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior, finished the season five pick-sixes for OIA champion Kahuku. That ties him with Isaiah Keyes of Notth Hagerstown, Md., who had his five in 2013.

The record of six interceptions returned for TDs is shared by two players: Maurice Cooper of Saginaw Nouvel, Mich. (1994), and Ben Sukut of Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley Christian, Calif. (2012).

Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez found the list on Tuesday morning.

Kaniho has eight scholarship offers: Army, Boise State, Colorado, Hawaii, UNLV, San Diego State, Vanderbilt and Washington State.

Coach Hernandez is the man. He always takes the time to highlight and recognize players from other schools.

Lmao well as long as everyone knows that Sol Jay is not a Qb. He’s really good at handing off the ball to the running backs. And there was a video of a fwam name Mika tufuga who had the nerve to send a message to the St. Louis community. Dude go valu some popo at PCC. This guy said St. Louis had 19 year old players????? Sol jay will be 19 before he graduates. Same goes for Kesi Ahoy who will is already 19. So don’t talk when you are clueless. Just be humble that your family left Samoa cause you were struggling and moves to the North shore to struggle again?? Dude that’s why da focus can’t be football but has to be academics. Just be thankful a St. Louis alumni came to help your school to focus on football and academics. Have a safe and aloha thanksgiving week. Fa Miki

OIA/ILH heads need to put a stop to these 19 year olds playing HS sports, 18 should be the cutoff for HS (period)……

Man I totally agree with you that the focus should be on academics. Kahuku has some of the worst test scores in Hawaii if not the nation.

It amazes me that the fans can practice or perform the Haka, but many of them cannot sit down on a kitchen or dining table when their kids are young and practice with them their basic skills. Based on the data, many of these kids can barely read or count.

Looking at Gaylord’s writing, it’s clear he was never taught to compose anything scholarly.

Nothing wrong with supporting your team. But it’s sad when there is more support for an extracurricular activity than your own child’s learning.

How come the Education First guy is always allowed to post on this forum? He just brings negitivity and hate…. geez man relax these are kids that your talking about here, I’m ashamed to be a combat veteran deploy overseas and fight to protect your freedom of speech only to have you bad mouth my almamater, my community, my team, and my love for Kahuku football

Don’t even trip bradah Stan. Majority if not all of the people posting negative stuff about these kids are either from or have ties to Kahuku. Most likely a disgruntled parent who believes his/her kid should be playing more. Sad but probably true.

I’m sure you & your fellow RR friends can relate. All of you Kahuku chimers are either part of the Simones Era or was the practice dummy while the core players used you on the scout team. C’mon man, you guys have nothing else to live for but living through these kids & high school football. Its clear as day. Look at “the community fanbase” during football season compared to a successful volleyball or basketball season. If you’re going to be a supporter support Kahuku all the way through not half cock’d only when they’re at the top.

wow, that is some mean posts for someone who has a nephew with a few more years to play.

Keep being mean and I’m going to post you’re email and your ip address, and I’m going to tell your nephew who you are, and post your name on here.
    Go ahead, call my bluff.

Wow this is even better news for the Kahuku community. So there is a player that is 19yrs old playing with legitimate 18yr olds & he’s barely standing out. That’s sad, all these write ups & recognition he’s getting only to find out he’s supposed to have graduated already. And the “Michigan Recruit” will be 19 when he graduates? That means we should be judging his potential as a sophomore because of his age not a freshman because of his grade. If he’s one year older that his graduating class he’s way behind in mechanics & game smarts of being a qb.
And to all the RR supporters trying to asterisk the St Louis prep bowl run because of claims of older kids or 19 yr old players. You just heard it from Kahuku Alumni. The current age status of a few players are & will be graduating 19 yr old seniors.

stan, you played the “military” card over this in an effort to silence education first? Really?

fyi, the kahuku trolls here like 88 do just as much badmouthing, only to ILH kids, ILH coaches, HHSAA commitee members, and all the people who work hard to provide a positive environment to develop high school kids in sports and in life. So go post on code red and reign those idiots in. Clean your house before you try to wave the patriotism flag and silence others.
