Waianae’s Rosario expected back soon

Rico Rosario rushed for 1,266 yards and 15 touchdowns as a Waianae junior running back last season, so many people wondered why he didn’t play in a season-opening, nonleague, 49-7 home loss to Waianae last Saturday. Rosario said Tuesday night that he did not play in the game for two reasons. One, he broke a team rule, and two, he had an elbow injury suffered in a scrimmage against Punahou. 4 JV football teams bow out of games

Four Oahu Interscholastic Association junior varsity football teams will not be playing games this week. In three out of the four cases, the reason for forfeiting the JV contests is not enough JV players on the roster to safely play a game, according to OIA football coordinator Harold Tanaka. Kahuku’s Vimahi lands first SEC offer

Kahuku junior offensive lineman Enokk Vimahi landed his first scholarship offer from the SEC on Thursday. Ole Miss became the 10th school overall to offer the 6-foot-4, 260-pound Vimahi, who opens his season Friday night at home against Leilehua. The top three teams in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 are also in the MaxPreps national Top 150 after the latest rankings were released Monday. Kaiser forfeits game against Mililani

Kaiser’s varsity football team will not play a scheduled game for the second week in a row, according to a source close to the situation. The Cougars’ varsity and junior varsity games at Mililani on Friday night have been canceled. The results will go in the books as forfeits by Kaiser, which has been having difficulties fielding enough varsity players to safely play an Oahu Interscholastic Association game.
