ILH likely to count football games against OIA

Kaimuki to play football game in Las Vegas

Kaimuki will travel to play a football game against Sierra Vista in Las Vegas on Sept. 7. The Mountain Lions from Las Vegas went 6-3 a year ago, including a 43-0 loss to powerhouse Bishop Gorman. The Bulldogs went 5-4 and lost 7-0 to Pearl City in the semifinals of the OIA Division II playoffs. Kaimuki is one of six Oahu schools with a game slated against a mainland team this fall. 1964 prep football all-star teams

Only one player was a unanimous selection to the Honolulu Advertiser 1964 All-State football team. Punanhou’s Charley Wedemeyer was the consensus player of the year in both newspapers. Buffanblu teammates Doug Jacobsen and Wayne Sterling were also first-team selections by both newspapers. The Advertiser had two more Buffanblu players on its first team — tackle Ed Pickering and guard Robert Klein. The Star-Bulletin added Punahou center Fred Hemmings. Mililani to play St. John Bosco in California

Mililani will visit St. John Bosco for a football game against the Braves in Bellflower, Calif., on Aug. 31. This will be the third trip in the last four seasons for the Trojans. They defeated Clayton Valley Charter 49-30 in Concord, Calif., last season. In 2015, they visited Liberty in Las Vegas and lost 76-53. Kahuku running back Lakei Heimuli and Waianae defensive back Derrick Mahaulu were the top offensive and defensive players as chosen by the Honolulu Advertiser in 1982. The best team in Oregon football last season is visiting Hawaii for a game against ‘Iolani at Eddie Hamada Field on Aug. 31, according to Raiders coach Wendell Look. Damien to play football game on the mainland

Damien will be taking its first mainland football trip since well before Eddie Klaneski became the head coach in 2011. Damien will play Mt. Spokane in Mead, Wash., on Aug. 31. The Wildcats went 8-3 a year ago. Klaneski led the Monarchs to a 10-4 mark and the ILH D-II title in 2017. Saint Louis defensive end/tight end Jim Nicholson was the ILH’s lineman of the year and player of the year by the Honolulu Advertiser and the lineman of the year by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin in 1967. Nicholson was 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds. His Crusaders teammate, fullback Donald Mahi, was named the back of the year by the Advertiser. The Star-Bulletin differed, choosing Farrington defensive back George Dudoit, a 5-foot-10, 166-pound senior. The Star-Bulletin created two new positions on its all-star team […]
