2018 OIA-ILH football schedule

The OIA-ILH football schedule is out for the 2018 season. For the first time, the two leagues are combining for a full slate of regular-season games. The OIA and ILH will continue to crown their own league champions. The OIA will hold playoffs. The ILH will base its champions on won-loss records. Kahuku’s Schwenke dies at 25

Former Kahuku football coach Reggie Torres was shaken when he heard the news of the death of Kona Schwenke, one of three defensive linemen from the 2009 Red Raiders squad that lost 34-21 in the state Division I football final to Kamehameha. Schwenke, 25, was found dead in his sleep by his family Sunday morning, according to his father, McKay Schwenke. Kona went on to play a four-year career at Notre Dame. 1951 prep football all-star teams

ILH champion Kamehameha and runner-up Roosevelt led the way with four selections each on the Honolulu Advertiser’s ILH all-star teams in 1951. There were no unanimous selections to the team, but Rooosevelt halfback Roy Ryder, the league scoring champion, gaining seven of the eight first-place ballots. Kamehameha’s George Poa got the nod at quarterback, just ahead of Kaimuki’s Edward Kawawaki. ‘Iolani’s Edwin Neves, who was the ILH’s leading rusher, got the vote at fullback ahead of Punahou’s Mike McCormack. Under second-year head coach Ron Marciel, Saint Louis went 8-0-1 to win the ILH title and land a league-best five players on the Honolulu Advertiser’s ILH all-star team in 1966. Senior halfback John Coen of McKinley was named the back of the year, and Saint Louis’ starting center and linebacker, Sanford Obra, was named lineman of the year.
