Leeward, Windward club football meeting Thursday; Kauai calls out for players

A club football informational meeting will be held Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Damien Memorial cafeteria. The meeting will be a chance for college athletes who are interested in playing for the Leeward or Windward clubs in Hawaii 8 — a new league under the nonprofit Hawaii Football Club — that starts in the spring of 2020. MIL football schedule is out; Baldwin to host California team

Two MIL football teams will be hosting games against non-Hawaii schools this fall, according to the recently released schedule. Baldwin meets Edison of Huntington Beach, Calif., in an Aug. 16 game at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku. The Bears are trying for their first MIL Division I title since 2016. Running back Jonan Aina-Chaves, who made the All-State first team as a junior playing for St. Francis, will play his senior season at Campbell he said Monday. Aina-Chaves — known to many as “Bubba” — rushed for 1,289 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Saints last season. Athletic directors approved the tweaking of the Hawaii high school state football tournament format at their annual legislative meeting Thursday afternoon. The vote in favor of two state tourney format proposals Thursday was 51-40 at the Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association at its annual legislative meeting at the Kauai Marriott Resort in Lihue.
