MIL football schedule is out; Baldwin to host California team

Lahainaluna, which wrapped up its 13th consecutive MIL title last week, is back in the Star-Advertiser Top 10. Photo by Cindy Ellen Russell/Star-Advertiser.

Two MIL football teams will be hosting games against non-Hawaii schools this fall, according to the recently released schedule.

Baldwin meets Edison of Huntington Beach, Calif., in an Aug. 16 game at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku.

The Bears are trying for their first MIL Division I title since 2016. Maui High is the two-time defending champion.

Edison’s Tigers went 6-6 in 2018.

The next night, Aug. 17, Kwansei Gakuin of Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan, visits King Kekaulike.

In a bit of a twist, some MIL teams will play league games before nonleague games. Usually, most nonleague games are done before the league slate starts.

The MIL schedule, courtesy of the Maui News, is below, followed by all 10 games in 2019 pitting Hawaii teams against non-Hawaii schools.

We’ll see if King Kekaulike can snap their 41-game losing streak against a Japanese team. Kwansei
is a Japanese powerhouse team, but last time they met in 2010, Kekaulike got on top so we’ll see how this goes.

Edison is the Chargers. Not the Tigers. They also went 5-6 in 2018. At least Baldwin plays a weaker Orange County team in a lower division Edison team as opposed to the D1 Mission Viejo squad that would murder them every other year.
