Canada’s No. 6-ranked team takes on injury-riddled Waialua

By Paul Honda on August 21, 2019

Strange conundrums, indeed. The Trojans of Vincent Massey Collegiate, a public school in Manitoba, Canada, love their football. That’s why Thursday brings both exhilaration and bittersweet sacrifice. “The (Oakland) Raiders and (Green Bay) Packers play in Winnipeg this Thursday,” Trojans football coach Kelsey McKay said by phone on Tuesday night. “But we’re going to Hawaii.” Vincent Massey will play Waialua on Friday night at Tosh Nakasone Field. Waialua is 1-1 after a win over Nanakuli and a loss to Roosevelt. […]

Hilo’s dominant win over KS-Hawaii leaves coach Kaeo Drummondo less than satisfied

By Paul Honda on August 20, 2019

There’s nothing like a dominant win to confirm who rules the roost. Hilo’s 54-10 victory over Kamehameha-Hawaii over the weekend was definitive. The reigning BIIF Division I champion had no trouble with the league’s defending D-II king. Hilo (1-0, 0-0) is atop the hill at this point even if the game with KS-Hawaii was nothing more than an exhibition that doesn’t count toward the league standings. More so, Vikings coach Kaeo Drummondo is less than satisfied. “In all honesty, I […]

‘Controlled chaos’ fuels Mililani defense in shutout of Kahuku

By Paul Honda on August 17, 2019

There is plenty of hospitality when it comes to the Mililani Trojans. Their recent trip to American Samoa built friendships with the Vikings of Fagaitua that showed on Friday night. Selfies with Mililani and Vikings players, who are visiting Oahu, on the sideline, lots of smiles and memories. Before that festive time, Mililani was less generous on the field. The third-ranked Trojans took care of business on the turf of John Kauinana Stadium with a 32-0 win over No. 4 […]
