Boys soccer: Goals come cheap in OIA East

One lament about soccer is that there is no scoring, but the OIA East boys have the antidote for that kind of thinking. The conference has been a scorefest this year, led by Kailua’s Naia Graham. The East has four of Oahu’s top five scorers and is celebrating an average of 5.8 times per game. Girls soccer: Kahuku beats Moanalua

Kamaile Aluli and Jaelyn Lowry each scored goals and Kahuku beat Moanalua 2-0 in OIA East soccer on Saturday. Kahuku is unbeaten at 7-0-2 this season while Moanalua dropped into second place at 7-2. Boys soccer: Mid-Pacific boys suffer first loss

Mark Kelley and Gordon Kowalkowski each scored goals and the Punahou boys soccer team dealt Mid-Pacific its first loss of the season on Saturday. The Owls, who beat ‘Iolani earlier in the week, dropped to 6-1-1 while the Buffanblu improved to 5-2-1. Kamehameha got two goals from Keola Norton and One from Christopher Jenkins to beat Pac-Five 3-2 and keep pace with Punahou for the ILH’s second state berth in Division I. Varsity girls Mililani 1, Aiea 1 Mililani’s girls soccer team remained undefeated in the OIA West Division after notching a 1-1 tie with host Aiea Friday night. Kayla Braunthal scored for the Trojans, while Sara Olanda found the back of the net for Na Alii. With the tie, Mililani moved to 8-0-1 and has now outscored its league opponents 39-2. The final 12.2 seconds of a wild battle between No. 2 Punahou and No. 3 Saint Louis in ILH play at McCabe Gym. Down 58-56 with 1.7 seconds to go, Punahou’s Kala‘i Santos banks in a 74-foot prayer for the miraculous win as his team overcomes a 13-point deficit.

Kruse picks up Gatorade award

As expected, Kamehameha’s Kaeo Kruse was selected as the Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year for Hawaii. Kruse earned his first state title at the end of the fall season with a time of 15 minutes, 38.1 seconds as well as leading the Warriors to the team title. He also won the ILH. He then finished 33rd at the Foot Locker South Regional championships, the highest Hawaii finisher. He ran a 16:25.7 in that race. Kruse follows former teammate […]

Mid-Pacific rules ILH boys soccer

Throw out classification, the best team in ILH boys soccer is in Division II. Daniel Yamashita scored late and Mid-Pacific stayed unbeaten with a 1-0 win over ‘Iolani on Wednesday. The game pitted the reigning state champions in their respective divisions. ‘Iolani suffered it first loss of the season.
