Enriques: Team concept is indispensable

By Nick Abramo on March 28, 2015

The team concept is simple, on paper. Putting it into practice is much tougher, and Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Guy Enriques is one coach who is well aware of how much of an uphill climb it is to get everyone to put team first and individualism second. “Everyone talks about team, but can you walk the talk?” said Enriques, the Warriors boys volleyball coach who is on Oahu with his team for the ‘Iolani Invitational. “I like to relate team to family. How […]

Campbell’s other pitchers rounding into shape

By Nick Abramo on March 26, 2015

Four battlers instead of one ace resulted in an eerily similar pitching line for Campbell in Thursday night’s 7-0 victory over Waipahu. When OIA West teams see the Sabers coming on the schedule, it sure must seem like a pleasant surprise when they find out that Ian Kahaloa is not pitching. Such was the case for the Marauders on Thursday, but it didn’t matter. No Kahaloa on the mound. No difference. Four Campbell hurlers — left-handed starter Dorrien Hermosura, Chad […]

Big Blue Bomber: Ma‘a smash, smash, smash

By Paul Honda on March 26, 2015

It was another WOW night by Punahou. I just saw another excellent team get neutralized by No. 1 Punahou. This time it was No. 5 HBA that got swept 25-20, 25-15 on the opening day of the Hawaii Invitational at ‘Iolani School. Last week, I saw No. 2 Kamehameha get swept by PUN. The Buffanblu have outstanding back-row defense — libero Kelsey Yogi was relentless — and their passing was superb. But it’s Micah Ma‘a (15 kills, .700 hitting percentage […]

At the end of the video, he predicts an undefeated season for the Red Raiders in 2015 and says with a smile, “Go Big Red.” Leslie resigned last week after a 9-3 season to return to his family on the mainland. The Kahuku administration […]
