Maryknoll baseball team headed to Division I

It will be a whole new world for the Maryknoll baseball team next spring. Due to their three consecutive Division II state championships, next season the Spartans — by ILH rule — will be moving up to Division I in the ILH and fighting for a berth in the D-I state tournament. Punahou and Moanalua moved on to state volleyball’s final four in the Oahu regionals last night. Moanalua beat Kamehameha in five and Punahou put away Waianae in three. Kills from Karson Cruz and Skyler Engleman extended Moanalua’s lead to 11-7 in Set 5. Engleman’s kill and a Kamehameha hitting error made it 13-9, forcing the Warriors to call a timeout. Kapolei, Roosevelt win judo titles

Kapolei had four individual champions and repeated as state boys judo champions on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Jayson Pagurayan won at 108 pounds, Andre Pagurayan got it done at 114, Kaulana Narciso won at 132 and Kekua Marumoto won his second state title with a victory at 161 pounds. Alcon upsets Lau in state tennis

Mid-Pacific’s Skyla Alcon proved she can do it on her own if she has to. The senior upset defending champion Taylor Lau 6-4, 6-3 to secure the girls singles title in the Carlsmith Ball / HHSAA State Tennis Championships at Central Oahu Regional Park. She added that gold medal to the doubles title she won with Cori Cummings last year. Lau knows all about how upsets happen, she beat three-time champ Alyssa Tobita of Mililani in the final last year. Campbell senior Ian Kahaloa and Kamehameha senior Codie Paiva engaged in one of the all-time great pitching duels on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium in the semifinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships.
