OIA Division II play begins Friday night with two games, including Pearl City at Roosevelt. The Chargers make their season debut under head coach Robin Kami against a Rough Riders squad that looked good in last week’s win over McKinley. The Chargers have won the last three meetings by a combined score of 125-13. Kapolei’s Auwae headed to UCLA

Kapolei offensive lineman Sean Auwae made his college commitment Friday morning on Twitter, posting a video with his Hurricanes teammates announcing his decision to attend UCLA next season. Auwae had announced a top six earlier this week that included the Bruins, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Louisville, Utah and Oregon State. Mililani up to No. 7 in national rankings

Mililani hasn’t played a regular-season game yet and went from No. 18 to No. 7 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings in less than a week. The defending Division I state champion Trojans were in double digits when the rankings came out on Aug. 8 and are in the single digits in the latest release Thursday. Okamura: Fagaitua vs. Saint Louis is real game

Unlike its two previous high school football encounters in Hawaii this season, Fagaitua, the champions from American Samoa, will play in a real game for the third one. Saint Louis athletic director Wade Okamura confirmed on Thursday that the Aug. 21 nonleague game between Saint Louis and Fagaitua at Aloha Stadium has been sanctioned by the National Federation of High School Associations and the Hawaii High School Athletic Association. Kamehameha’s Sua-Godinet out 2 weeks

Kamehameha senior quarterback Fatu Sua-Godinet has a knee strain and will be out of action for two weeks, head coach Doug Cosbie told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on Thursday. Sua-Godinet hurt the knee during Kamehameha’s season-opening 33-13 win at Waianae last Friday. He won’t play on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against visiting Baldwin of the Maui Interscholastic League at Kamehameha’s Kunuiakea Stadium, and will likely miss the Aug. 21 game at Hilo on the Big Island. Anuenue forfeits OIA D-II opener

Two days before its scheduled Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II opener, Anuenue has elected to forfeit its Saturday game against Radford at Kaiser Stadium. Rams head coach Fred Salanoa was notified of the decision on Thursday. Harold Tanaka, the OIA football coordinator, and Anuenue coach Keli‘i Pio Adams confirmed it. “We’re trying to be optimistic,” Adams said. “We have 23 players and six have been injured since the St. Francis game (a 62-0 loss last Friday. Castle kicks off volleyball season

The 2015 girls volleyball season begins this week with tournaments at Castle and Waiakea. The first annual Nelly Invitational promises to be an emotional affair, being run for the first time in honor of longtime coach Danell Yanagida, who died last year at 33 years old. Castle coach Grant Tolentino, who coached Yanagida as a player, put together the event with seven other teams accepting invitations.
