Leader down, how will Moanalua respond?

By Paul Honda on August 30, 2015

It was a breakout game for young Alakai Yuen. Sure, the Moanalua offense is geared up, an offensive juggernaut — but only with the right combination of field vision, passing skills and toughness in its trigger man. On Saturday night, there was absolutely no doubt that man was Yuen, who passed for 345 yards, five TDs and no picks (21-for-35) before going down with a neck injury during a late-game drive into Farrington territory. No. 6 Farrington’s 42-35 win was […]

Slow the run, pay the air tax

By Paul Honda on August 30, 2015

On a night when two normally prolific running backs — Michael Feliciano of Moanalua and Challen Faamatau of Farrington — found just about every nook and cranny occupied by the enemy, the fate of their title-contending teams may have gone in opposite directions. Moanalua isn’t a widely accepted title contender, but certainly most fans can agree that they are a playoff threat. Feliciano, who is capable of breaking off a 200-yard rushing game any time, was limited to 3.5 yards […]

Mililani/Kapolei destroys record books

By Billy Hull on August 30, 2015

A day later and it’s still hard to process the show that both Mililani and Kapolei put on Saturday night at John Kauinana Stadium. Mililani QB McKenzie Milton was so good that he even had Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez calling him the best quarterback he’s ever seen. Offensive records dropped like crazy so let’s take a closer look at just exactly what transpired. >> Milton threw for 515 yards to become the fourth quarterback on Oahu to top 500 yards […]

Wondering why scouts don’t flock to see Milton

By Nick Abramo on August 30, 2015

I am here to tell you that McKenzie Milton is something special. Sure, sure, the person who is saying that (me) also thought Jarin Morikawa was something special. And he was, but Milton, who took over the Mililani quarterback job three years ago after Morikawa graduated, is on a whole ‘nother level. Morikawa was a great quarterback. Milton is more accurate, has more zip on the ball and his mobility allows him to gain valauble seconds in which he can […]

Iolani wins Hawaii VB Invitational

By Jerry Campany on August 29, 2015

The ILH is always tough in girls volleyball, but it might have become a whole lot tougher. No. 3 Iolani, which has been looking up at Punahou and Kamehameha for the past seven years, showed what is possible this year with a championship in Kamehameha’s Hawaii Volleyball Invitational on Saturday. The Raiders, who have not made it to states since 2007, opened the championship round of the tournament with a 25-12, 25-16 sweep of Kalaheo then dropped host Kamehameha 19-25, […]

Punahou alum Tuileta done playing football

By Hawaii Prep World on August 29, 2015

Larry Tuileta, who guided the Punahou Buffanblu to three ILH titles, a state title and three appearances in the state final from 2011 to 2013, has given up football to focus on volleyball at Southern California. A USC official confirmed Friday that Tuileta is only listed on the 2016 USC men’s volleyball roster. As quarterback of the Buffanblu, Tuileta went 29-5 as a starter and threw for 6,962 yards and 77 touchdowns, ranking fourth all-time in career passing. Of the […]
