No. 7 Kailua’s offense is a smooth operation

By Nick Abramo on September 19, 2015

Kailua’s offense was about as balanced as you can get in a 37-24 win at Moanalua on Friday night. And that sentence was written before looking at the actual ratio of rush vs. pass. OK, back from the math and it’s it’s 38 passes and 39 rushes. With quarterback Noah Auld at the controls, the seventh-ranked Surfriders’ offensive machinery was a thing of beauty. Unlike some teams that pass 38 times in a game, this offense has no hesitation to […]

Kaiser’s Higgins, Eletise step up in crunch time

By Billy Hull on September 19, 2015

With his star running back, senior Jensen McDaniel, getting swallowed up in the second half by the Castle defensive line, Kaiser coach Cameron Higgins changed things up. Or as he put it, “you just try to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.” Cameron put his younger brother, Parker Higgins, a senior at Kaiser, at running back alongside McDaniel and Parker came up big, sealing the game with a 31-yard touchdown run and then adding a 65-yard run […]

By Billy Hull on September 18, 2015

Kahuku and Waianae enter the weekend undefeated in the OIA Red while every other team has at least two losses with three weeks to go. However, the Red Raiders and Seariders haven’t both locked up the first-round bye in the OIA playoffs just yet. After starting 0-3, Kaiser nearly controls its own destiny. The Cougars could sneak into one of the top two spots if they win out and Waianae loses to Kahuku. Up first is a Castle team that […]

By Nick Abramo on September 18, 2015

Mililani coach Rod York reported early Friday afternoon that running back Jalen Olomua is doing “great” and back home after being taken by ambulance to a hospital during Thursday night’s 71-28 victory over Farrington at Aloha Stadium. “Thank God. X-rays were negative and he is home and will be back (to school and practice) on Monday,” York texted Hawaii Prep World. “It was precautionary.” Olomua, a transfer this season from Kahuku, was hit in the back of the head by […]

Okimoto: Govs defense showed its inexperience

By Nick Abramo on September 18, 2015

Farrington head coach Randall Okimoto looks just about the same after a loss than he does after a win. He’s even-keeled, no matter what. And he got right to the point after the handshake line on Thursday. His sixth-ranked Governors had just suffered a 71-28 loss to No. 3 Mililani. “It really showed our lack of experience on defense,” he said. “When you play a team as disciplined as Mililani’s offense is you’re going to get exposed. Now, it’s all […]
