Farrington rested, Campbell weary

By Paul Honda on October 16, 2015

Farrington has rested up since pulling out a 21-14 win over the Sabers two weeks ago at Aloha Stadium. Campbell’s defense was outstanding that night, but hasn’t had a bye week since late August. Last week’s 27-21 win at Kaiser was epic, but the Sabers will need more of that postseason mojo. They might get it by grinding this out, the same way they did in the fourth quarter against Kaiser with a 7-minute-plus drive for the go-ahead TD. Terell […]

Leilehua looks the part

By Paul Honda on October 15, 2015

For a moment early in Thursday’s loss to Kalaheo, the Leilehua girls volleyball team looked like world beaters. Elisha Levasa cleverly pushed the ball all over the court as Leilehua compensated for Kalaheo’s height and athleticism. The Lady Mules led the opening set 6-1 after Saramasina Docktor established her presence with a block and consecutive kills. Kalaheo rallied behind Siani Yamaguchi and took a 14-9 lead. Leilehua regained the lead with kills and a block by Levasa. After an ace […]

Kahuku keeps streak alive

By Nick Abramo on October 15, 2015

Kahuku will return to its 15th straight state tournament. “I’m proud of our team and what we accomplished tonight,” said Kahuku’s Jasmine Niutupuivaha, who had 14 kills and four blocks in a five-set win over Kapolei in the OIA quarterfinals Thursday night at the Mililani High gym. “We tried to control what we could control. (In future matches), it will be important for us to stay disciplined and always stay positive.” Cheyenne Te’o pounded 15 kills for the Red Raiders […]

Nanakuli, Kaimuki play for state berth

By Paul Honda on October 15, 2015

Nanakuli finally returned to its renovated home field after a long stretch on the road, and the Golden Hawks hope to get another win in their new digs when they host dangerous Kaimuki in a playoff game. They lost to eventual regular-season, first-place finisher Radford 28-7, then beat Kalani 22-6, ending the Falcons’ playoff hopes. Nanakuli’s exemplary road success was rewarded. They get to play at home in this make-or-break playoff game. A win puts the Golden Hawks into the […]

Kailua wants to keep it going

By Paul Honda on October 15, 2015

Kailua has come a long way since last year’s winless season, but now the Surfriders face a trip to Waianae to keep it going. Noah Auld‘s injury-plagued junior year left Kailua in dire straits offensively, but his return late in the season provided hope. Auld threw for nearly 200 yards in the season finale and the Surfriders nearly doubled their entire season’s scoring output in a 34-33 loss to Moanalua. This year, Auld has been efficient and durable, balancing a […]

MaxPreps puts Mililani on top of Hawaii list

By Nick Abramo on October 14, 2015

Mililani is ranked No. 4 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10, and — despite a playoff bye last week — jumped over No. 1 Punahou in the MaxPreps national computer rankings released Sunday. The Trojans (7-1) rose 26 spots to No. 119. Punahou (8-0), after a 26-23 comeback win over No. 5 Kamehameha last Friday, dropped 11 spots in the national poll to No. 128. No. 2 Saint Louis (6-1), the Buffanblu’s opponent this Saturday at Aloha Stadium, is […]

OIA volleyball playoffs start tonight

By Hawaii Prep World on October 14, 2015

Chances of a fourth consecutive different champion to come out of the OIA Red girls volleyball playoffs seem highly unlikely with Moanalua, Mililani and Kahuku all very capable of prevailing in the tournament that starts tonight with four first-round games. A bracket and updated results can be found on our OIA girls volleyball page. Roosevelt in 2006 is the last team other than the Big Three to prevail. Kahuku, Moanalua and Mililani have taken turns as OIA champions since the […]
