Kato gets a light workout in Waipahu

By Jerry Campany on January 9, 2016

Punahou’s Cameron Kato had no trouble at an OIA/ILH mini tournament at Waipahu on Saturday. Kato, a defending state champion and ranked No. 3 in Hawaii Prep World’s pound-for-pound list, pinned both of his opponents before forfeiting his final match. He drew a bye in his first match before stopping Ti-Jey Asano of Farrington and Kapolei’s Treyson Caniete. Ian Murakami of Pac-Five left with first place in the 126-pound class, though, because Kato left the gym before his showdown with […]

By Billy Hull on January 9, 2016

We’re back for the second and final night of the Junior Prep Sports Paradise Football Classic at Aloha Stadium. Only 48 hours between games for these guys, so we’ll see how they respond. Punahou’s Ephraim Tuliloa took nearly all of the reps for Hawaii East in the first game. We’ll see if he carries the same load in tonight’s first game against the West Coast all-star team. Hawaii East really struggled to move the ball on offense Thursday, finishing with […]

Todani the embodiment of improvement

By Nick Abramo on January 9, 2016

A whirlwind named Shaylee Todani brought a special kind of energy into Leilehua’s 58-49 girls basketball victory over visiting Nanakuli on Friday. The whole first quarter was quiet, with the Mules taking an 8-6 lead. Then, things got stirred up by Todani, the junior guard who head coach Elroy Dumlao said was making her first start. “She’s the most improved player on the team,” Dumlao said after the game. “She’s been having great practices.” Here are some little “snapshots” of […]

Kahuku interim coach Tachibana is reapplying

By Nick Abramo on January 8, 2016

Kahuku has put the word out that it is looking for applicants for its head girls volleyball coaching job. It might just be a formality. The interim head coach from last year, Mounia Tachibana, told Hawaii Prep World on Friday that she will be reapplying. Because she was an interim coach, Kahuku is following protocol by posting the job opening. It’s possible Tachibana will be hired again. Tachibana succeeded Lee Lamb and the Red Raiders went 14-3 overall and 12-2 […]

Fall football foes become friends in January

By Nick Abramo on January 8, 2016

Alakai Yuen wore his Moanalua helmet, but it was hard to tell. Before the game, he put stickers with the Kahuku, Punahou and Waialua logos on it. The Moanalua quarterback will be back for his senior year next season, and you can tell he was soaking in as much knowledge as possible on Thursday night while playing with teammates from all over the island in the second game of the Junior Prep Sports Paradise Football Classic at Aloha Stadium. Yuen […]

The main event of the evening pits the two Hawaii teams against each other in the second game of the Junior Prep Sports Paradise Football Classic. Rosters can be found here. There are a couple of additions worth noting. Mililani WR Kalakaua Timoteo, who is firm in his commitment to UH, will play for the West team. Ever imagine him catching passes from Tua and Taulia Tagovailoa? You’ll get to see it (or read about it) tonight. It’ll be fun […]

Timoteo’s pledge to UH as solid as they come

By Nick Abramo on January 7, 2016

Sometimes you make a phone call asking a simple question and you end up with a wealth of information that you weren’t expecting. It happened on Wednesday. The call was to Jocelyn Timoteo, the mother of Mililani star wide receiver and Hawaii commit Kalakaua Timoteo. Hawaii Prep World was wondering if Timoteo’s commitment to play for the Rainbow Warriors was still solid. If anyone is wondering, the answer is yes. And Jocelyn Timoteo relayed a story about her son that […]
